ipod classic or dud?

Dud. Dud. Dud. Such jittery times I spent wanking waiting for it to assemble itself. I swear to god I dunno what an ipod is.

Classic. I got one a few months ago, and I use it ALL THE TIME. Love it.

I swear to god I dunno what an ipod is.
Its a portable mp3 player for the Apple Macintosh. Like a Diamond Rio for "Granola Geeks."

Gave one to my wife for her birthday this morning and she seems quite pleased with it. The interface is way cool and like a lot of Apple stuff it completely satisfies the what-the-future-was-supposed-to-look-like-if-you-used-to-read-a-lot-of-science-fiction need which seldom gets satisfied at all.

Dunno about the iPod, but I just got me hands on the new Creative Nomad Jukebox 3, and it seems pretty cool, though I don't much like the new menu structure as of yet. May just be too used to the old one. The Firewire transfer to the Jukebox is lickity-split, though. Yay!

I'm debating buying one of these jukeboxes but i think i've settled on the archos range (mainly due to size)has anyone had any good/bad experience/own any of these eg rio riot, achos, creative labs etc? and especially in terms of the actual portable nature of these things?

The Creative Jukeboxes are every bit as portable as, say, a medium- sized discman, but a bit heavier...same general size, though. The new one, the Jukebox 3, is actually more compact and uses a better battery (and has a slot for a second, but you'll have to buy it from Creative, because it's proprietary). The Archos jukebox I looked at was reasonably small, but the filing system was very very basic, and though I could have gotten used to it, I much preferred the Nomad's, which allowed you to sort through your files based on artist/album as opposed to just the folder. More on the Jukebox 3 as I get used to it.

I wish i had an ipod! Currently I've got a rio volt mp3 cd player (the very first edition of it, not the new ones... although I don't think there's much difference). I've yet to figure out how to make a playlist on the damned thing, so I just burn my cds in the order that I hope I'll always want to listen to the songs in.

Anyway, it's not overly portable unless you have a messenger bag or something to put it in. If you get one with a little remote that goes between the headphones and the player it's a little better- at least I don't have to dig the whole player out of my bag to skip a song. Since it just spins up for a moment to read the whole song into memory at once, skipping is not really a problem. Anyway, I kind of want to get one of the tiny Mini Yepp players to go running with, but I can't really justify owning two mp3 players, so I'll have to run in silence until my volt dies.

Boy just thinking over the sheer leap between the first few posts on the thread and now...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 22:47 (fourteen years ago)

think ill just get another used one doesnt seem worth it, i could prob fill a 160 gb ipo w/ all the crap on my harddrive but i cultivate my ipod p rigorously & periodically delete everything on it and let life begin anew, which usually happens around 30gb. big fan of the elegance & minimalism of classic ipod interface & would feel like a massive dong if i had an ipod touch (not that i think ppl who do are massive dongs tho, just). feel like the only reason they no longer offer 80gb classic is bc it would be too affordable & then no1 would buy all this new gen crap but w/e

gotta be somewhere i can just buy like a lifetime supply dozen og 80gb ipods for v cheap? in asia??

flopson, Tuesday, 24 May 2011 22:57 (fourteen years ago)

What are the odds that for this, the 10th anniversary of the iPod, we'll get a 220gb Classic as a last-in-line release?
