One for Late of the Pier here.

Telephone thing, Friday, 10 October 2008 09:50 (sixteen years ago)

christ it's worse than last time. i blame beyonce for coming back with a subpar single, she should be stamping everyone else here into the ground :(

lex pretend, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:00 (sixteen years ago)

1. love lockdown
2. paper planes
3. green light
4. miss independent
5. my life

then we start to get into bleh-but-ok-i-suppose territory

6. tattoo
7. another way to die
8. forgive me
9. girls

and then literally nothing else worthy of attention there at all! nothing. maybe insert "it might grow on me" caveat for beyonce based solely on track record. honestly, though. WHERE IS BONGO JAM???

lex pretend, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:06 (sixteen years ago)

Thing I notice about this - those new British guitar bands that are dominating British new music nowadays - where are they? It's all third/fourth album stuff up the business end, unless it's American bands instead. I suspect we've had our second Britpop age, and now the doors are being sealed and we're back into Virgin Radio c.1998 territory. Again. Shall we blame the credit crunch? Let's blame the credit crunch.

Seriously - how many fucking chances have Fightstar had now?

Will give a listen to things I don't currently know before voting, but at the moment I'm most likely going for 'Love Lockdown'.

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:08 (sixteen years ago)

That Snow Patrol song is surprisingly excellent.

nate woolls, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:14 (sixteen years ago)

"Bathroom Gurgle" is an odd choice of single, when they've still got "Broken" sitting there.

It's too boring to vote for "Paper Planes", so I'll go with "Green Light".

"If I Were A Boy" is great! It made me cry! But it was early morning and I was hungover!

"The Promise" is great too!

What manner of horror is "Infinity 2008", then?

mike t-diva, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:15 (sixteen years ago)

Late of the Pier are on the new British gtr band tip (even though they have synths). They're a v poor comedy-Klaxons effort though.

The new Kaisers single looks like stiffing and the album is joyless stodge almost all the way through so we might be seeing more established bands cashing out of nu-britpop too.

Mooncalf (Raw Patrick), Friday, 10 October 2008 10:18 (sixteen years ago)

Pretty much don't wanna vote for anything here really. I just don't care enough.

Mooncalf (Raw Patrick), Friday, 10 October 2008 10:19 (sixteen years ago)

i put R1 on about 10 minutes; was accosted by sara cox's infantile nonsense. turned it off again.

put it back on again a couple of minutes ago and it was fucking bon jovi. christ's teeth.

i'm going to spend the next hour working in silence.

easy, lionel (grimly fiendish), Friday, 10 October 2008 10:21 (sixteen years ago)

Incidentally, Channel 4 have just announced the complete skittling of their radio operations.

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:36 (sixteen years ago)

Is "A-Punk" actually getting a proper single release or something?

Mark G, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:37 (sixteen years ago)

It's already had one, several months ago. Goodness knows why it's come round again - let's presume it's on some kind of advert.

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:40 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I got it then, it was a 7" single with the CD single inside, same tracks, the a-side and a demo version of another track. £4.99 it was.

One for the price of two.

Mark G, Friday, 10 October 2008 10:57 (sixteen years ago)

That release was 7" and CD in the same package thus chart ineligable. It might be getting a chart-aimed release.

x-p

Mooncalf (Raw Patrick), Friday, 10 October 2008 10:58 (sixteen years ago)

what a disgusting playlist

Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008

Woah back up back up what the hell is this doing on here?!

Matt DC, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:24 (sixteen years ago)

Late of the Pier are on the new British gtr band tip (even though they have synths). They're a v poor comedy-Klaxons effort though.[

RONG! They're ace, this track is ace, the album's ace and... they're ace. Again.

Anyway.

Yes, more Guru josh info pls!

Oh dear lord:

CharlieNo4, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

Late Of The Pier seem to be one of those bands devised solely for grown-up indie kids who now go to more stand-up comedy nights than gigs.

Matt DC, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:29 (sixteen years ago)

ouch

CharlieNo4, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:31 (sixteen years ago)

(although hardly true in my case!)

CharlieNo4, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:31 (sixteen years ago)

Jesus H Christ that video.

Early 90s crusty ravers, one day this man will make hot girls roll around in their pants stroking themselves.

Matt DC, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:34 (sixteen years ago)

Another vote for "Green Light" from me.

Other contenders were:
"The Promise" (srsly, best GA single since "Love Machine")
"Paper Planes" (is anybody actually playing this? I've yet to hear it on the radio)
Ne-Yo
Waysis (reminds me of "Super-Electric")
Ting Tings (must get the LP)
Smiley Miley
P!nk = punk
N-Dubz
Raghav n' Redman

There. Ten good ones. I can recall worse.

Jeff W, Friday, 10 October 2008 11:37 (sixteen years ago)

Frances was LAUGHING at me for liking them last night coz they're SUCH teenage MySpace electro. But then even she had to admit that actually, they really were quite good.

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Friday, 10 October 2008 12:22 (sixteen years ago)

I think I might just have to vote for "Sex on Fire" here.

danzig, Friday, 10 October 2008 17:08 (sixteen years ago)

One ( and probably the only one) for Brookes Brothers

Iain Macdonald, Friday, 10 October 2008 20:44 (sixteen years ago)
