chap, Friday, 10 October 2008 13:52 (seventeen years ago)

The second one is Piano Tune by Peshay.

chap, Friday, 10 October 2008 13:52 (seventeen years ago)

Phuture Assassins - Future Sound (2 Bad Mice remix)

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 15:22 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm, that's no the version of "Scottie" I remember... Wasn't there a remix or something which also sampled the opening notes of the Star Trek theme?

(x-post)

Tuomas, Friday, 10 October 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

Subnation - Scottie. Very paranoid.

Nice. Reminded me of:

johnny jungle - johnny

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 15:25 (seventeen years ago)

Great response everyone, should keep me going for the rest of the day at least.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

Anyone know the name of the one with really dense breaks with a woman wailing "music so woooonderfull" over the top? It has some excellent sci-fi synth stabs as well.

chap, Friday, 10 October 2008 15:31 (seventeen years ago)

Wihch reminds me:

Babylon Timewarp - Durban Poison

Sound Corp - Dream Finder (Absolutely berserk, this one)

Dance Conspiracy - Dub War

xpost - I'm gonna be generous and say '97 or so. I'm sure if some later stuff sneaks in no one will mind too much as long as it's fat.

Haha - pretty late then.

The House Crew - Euphoria (Nino's Dream)

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

Obligatory weak jungle joke:

A: Because jungle is massive.

Hmm. Now says not available.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)

chap, Friday, 10 October 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

Omni Trio tripl... er double, bill

Thru the Vibes

and the stone-cold classic:

Renegade Snares (Foul Play VIP Mix)

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 17:07 (seventeen years ago)

I'm the only person around who likes the original mix of "Renegade Snare" more than the Foul Play remix, right?

Like sicking a little bit of water into my mouth (HI DERE), Friday, 10 October 2008 17:09 (seventeen years ago)

I really like both, but foul play slightly edges it, certainly in a dance floor context.

chap, Friday, 10 October 2008 17:14 (seventeen years ago)

It's the way the foul play VIP has a strange time signature, without appearing to, which does it for me.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 17:47 (seventeen years ago)

thread makes me happy! hoping to see a bunch of contributions.

carne asada, Friday, 10 October 2008 17:50 (seventeen years ago)

DJ Rap & Aston - Vertigo (Tumbling remix)

one of my faves from the old days!!

Oops, I mean the other way around re Snares.

Chewshabadoo, Friday, 10 October 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)

another piano burner from '93 - Manix - Reach Out
i remember requesting this tune from my best friend/DJ friend over and over and over...

mikebee (BATTAGS), Friday, 10 October 2008 17:54 (seventeen years ago)

What a great thread.

"I'm the only person around who likes the original mix of "Renegade Snare" more than the Foul Play remix, right?"

Wrong. Even though I personally prefer the Foul Play remix, you are most certainly not alone.

Totally gay for Obama (j-rock), Friday, 10 October 2008 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

huh, I got the impression that the Foul Play mix was the "definitive" version, but that may be because it's more dancefloor-friendly

Like sicking a little bit of water into my mouth (HI DERE), Friday, 10 October 2008 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

There's a strong sense of space and pacing in the original that really appeals to me; the remix sounds too rushed and busy in comparison. Keep in mind I heard the remix first and loved it, THEN discovered the original and was all "WOAH THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER". Then _Haunted Science_ came out and I wanted to stab him in the neck for sucking so bad, but that's another story.

Totally not you tube related, but has anyone else heard these (Reynold's reviews in recent Wire). Totally great slabs of 92/93-era goodness (or retro-goodness.)
