Who were funnier? Who rocked harder? Who had the better schtick? Is "King of Sex" really better than "If this gun were real (I could shoot you and sleep in the big bed with mommy)"? Who did better covers?

Happy Flowers were funnier, but Killdozer had the songs. That whole approach to covers hasn't aged well. Snakeboy is the best disc of the lot

Dude, Killdozer vs. anyone is probably going to be Killdozer.

That may be an exaggeration.

Definitely not an exaggeration

I <3 Happy Flowers. Ashamed to say I'm not really familiar with Killdozer - the one album I've heard, a later one, I think it was their last album, I didn't like much, but that was about 10 years ago I heard it so who knows.

I saw Killdozer at the T&G fest in Chicago and they were awesomely awesome.

michael gerald did lead vocals on a cover of linda perry's "beautiful" by my friend's band. it is on a single, you can own it.

Colonel Poo- Get the Touch and Go reissue of Intellectuals are the shoeshine boys of the ruling elite + Snakeboy twofer! My copy is strangely real quiet, but it's great.

xpost- that's amazing, libcrpyt.

I can't believe that both of these bands got so much mileage out of such seemingly limited shticks. Happy Flowers especially seem like they would've have been some kind of one-off joke side project, but they have lots of really good albums, and they're always funny.

BigLurks, Saturday, 11 October 2008 21:05 (seventeen years ago)

KILLDOZER!!!!!

and the fact that Gerald is now a scumster tax lawyer makes them even better

Fer Ark, Saturday, 11 October 2008 21:18 (seventeen years ago)

Were Happy Flowers as hilarious?

Killdozer were like a serial killing David Brent/Alan Partridge

Fer Ark, Saturday, 11 October 2008 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

^^No they weren't were they?

They were uniquely hilarious though.

'Hi There' always cracked me up.

And live, they rocked hard even if it was a mistake. Pig Fucking, plaid wearing(non ironic) wankers

I missed the Happy Flowers.

Fer Ark, Saturday, 11 October 2008 21:26 (seventeen years ago)

Happy Flowers were scarier.

Cheers, I'll have a look for that. Been meaning to have a listen to their early stuff sometime.

All I know about Killdozer is that they were a name on the flyers inside some of the Touch and Go vinyl I bought in the '80's.

But I seriously doubt they ever did anything as awesome as "Jenny Tried to Kiss Me at Recess," or even "Mom I Gave The Cat Some Acid."

I went for Happy Flowers, I was much more into their whole squealing skronky noise aesthetic. Killdozer sort of bored me after I'd heard the sweary bits a few times. Did like their version of Janet Jackson's 'Nasty' though.

I am a bigger Killdozer fan but I did get to be online friends with Mr Horribly Charred Infant from Happy Flowers and he came out to see my band one time when we were on tour in Atlanta.

How did I miss this poll? What a tough choice. Happy Flowers make you want to hug a child, yet Killdozer are formidable as a band. I guess Killdozer is what I am feeling right now.
