Carrie Bradshaw Layfield (The stickman from the hilarious 'xkcd' comics), Monday, 13 October 2008 16:17 (seventeen years ago)

I clicked on the thread meaning to vote for "just like a pill", nothing else listed even comes close to changing my mind. It is dreadful, portentious, pompous and leaden. I think it's one of the worst singles I've ever heard.

The Plastic Fork (Pashmina), Monday, 13 October 2008 16:39 (seventeen years ago)

i hope this poll helps you figure this out dom!!

goole, Monday, 13 October 2008 16:44 (seventeen years ago)

"Family Portrait" because it sounds a bit like an R&B number. Pink is generally better than most of the prefabricated stuff kids are into these days.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 13 October 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

i like There You Go, GTPS and Stoopid Girls

Annoying Display Name (blueski), Monday, 13 October 2008 17:00 (seventeen years ago)

I'm surprised at how many of her singles I've really liked. At least half of those listed above.

Joseph McCombs, Monday, 13 October 2008 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

"Don't Let Me Get Me" is my least favorite of her solo hits, although maybe some of these non-hits weren't any good and I just never heard them enough to form an opinion. Making "Lady Marmalade" an option really makes it tempting to just default to that one, though.

some dude, Monday, 13 October 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

the new one is terrible..

Local Garda, Monday, 13 October 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

difficult thread, and i say this as someone who occasionally likes pink. voted for "so what" -- it's the only one listed that's epic fail on all counts, inc. lyrics, music, production, etc.

Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte (get bent), Monday, 13 October 2008 17:59 (seventeen years ago)

it's weird how good 'don't let me get me' and 'just like a pill' seem in light of everything which followed. pink's idea of artistic growth really seems to be based around freeing herself from the shackles of subtlety. my vote goes to 'so what' though i haven't heard some of the flops (and am very happy w/this situation, w/specific reference to that thing calling itself 'dear mr president').

her first four solo singles are so great though...'most girls' is such a jam. a promising career ruined.

lex pretend, Monday, 13 October 2008 18:07 (seventeen years ago)

(nb obv i don't think 'don't let me get me' or 'just like a pill' are actually good! but next to TROUBLE YEAH TROUBLE I'M TROUBLE TROUBLE TROUBLE anything would seem good)

lex pretend, Monday, 13 October 2008 18:08 (seventeen years ago)

obv

"I'ma lose my religion and go secular on you, boy" (Ioannis), Monday, 13 October 2008 18:16 (seventeen years ago)

"Trouble" is so totally her best single or at least top 3.

some dude, Monday, 13 October 2008 18:24 (seventeen years ago)

all of them

cameron carr, Monday, 13 October 2008 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

only ones i like (a bit) are 'most girls' and 'you make me sick' and 'get this party started'. pink's rubbish eh?

or something, Monday, 13 October 2008 18:34 (seventeen years ago)

god is a dj is the worst of the ones that i know i thiink

finger blaster (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 October 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

although im sure it's actually the one called dear mr. president

finger blaster (J0rdan S.), Monday, 13 October 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

"Dear Mr. President" is pretty good, iirc.

"I'ma lose my religion and go secular on you, boy" (Ioannis), Monday, 13 October 2008 20:34 (seventeen years ago)

No opinion, as I've not heard the bulk of these songs...however, I find it amusing that you initiated this thread around the same time that you did the Deep Blue Something vs Rembrandts throwdown. Just as those bands are exemplary of mid-nineties schlock, it occurred to me the other day that "Get the Party Started" is a fine example of something from the early '00's that can't help but age wretchedly.

dell, Monday, 13 October 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

"dear mr. president" was REALLY popular in germany last year. it is terrible.

(nb: these two statements have no bearing on one another)

donna rouge, Monday, 13 October 2008 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

ok, i just listened to "Dear Mr. President" again, and agree that it's not much of a single, but it works just fine in the context of the album, indigo girls and all.

"I'ma lose my religion and go secular on you, boy" (Ioannis), Monday, 13 October 2008 21:09 (seventeen years ago)

I like Pink as a pop artist just fine, but I can't bring myself to muster anything but indifference to her songs, that is, except for "Most Girls," which is ace.

danzig, Monday, 13 October 2008 22:06 (seventeen years ago)

family portrait. serious pink = do not want

jabba hands, Monday, 13 October 2008 22:39 (seventeen years ago)

I haven't heard a lot of these, but the ones I've heard I've mostly liked - "Don't Let Me Get Me" is excellent, and "Trouble" and "U + Ur Hand" are also fine.

"Feel Good Time" is super-overlooked. Worth tracking down Beck's demo version, too.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 14 October 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 18 October 2008 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

it always strikes me as hilarious when some of these pop song titles are (non-ironically) use text abbreviations like "u" and "ur" etc. i mean, it's not like the actual singer wrote the songs, so the notion of some middle aged, white loser ghostwriter naming a song that in hopes of being culturally relevant is quite pathetic. how much must those guys hate their lives?
i'm not some anti-pop guy, either. i'm just saying some things are laughable.

1 in the pink. all in the stink.

abusive comments (PappaWheelie V), Sunday, 19 October 2008 00:58 (seventeen years ago)

Pink obviously wrote "U + Ur Hand" tonight, man. No one else could have written it. Incidentally, that was my vote, although "There U Go," "Family Portrait," "Feel Good Time," and "So What" were all definite contenders. I'm consistently amazed when I hear a Pink song I actually like.

"Don't Let Me Get Me"
"Just like a Pill"
"Family Portrait"
"Feel Good Time"
"Trouble"

^^^did we ever have a thread for the worst five single run of any artist this decade? Because that's gonna be hard to top.

ಥ﹏ಥ (cankles), Sunday, 19 October 2008 14:49 (seventeen years ago)

In the video, P!nk is seen sitting in front of an elephant. After the elephant had been on the set, she saw the abuse and captivity the animal was in. "Pink learned about the abuse of captive elephants when a trainer brought one onto the set of her 'Just like a Pill' video. She could see that something was wrong and she called us to learn more about the issue. Now, Pink would like to see circuses pack their trunks", according to PETA spokesman Dan Mathews.[2]

ಥ﹏ಥ (cankles), Sunday, 19 October 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)

Of what I remember, "Get the Party Started" is the worst, and these are the best:
"Don't Let Me Get Me"
"Just like a Pill"
"Family Portrait"
"God Is a DJ"
"Who Knew"
"U + Ur Hand"
"So What"

And you guys are so astoundingly wrong!

Tape Store, Sunday, 19 October 2008 17:10 (seventeen years ago)

This thread is based on a scientifically unsound concept: that anything Pink does is anything other than excellent.

OTM

why?

Pfunkboy Formerly Known As... (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 20 October 2008 01:13 (seventeen years ago)

because "Most Girls" is awesome!

Owner of a lonely hat (edwardo), Monday, 20 October 2008 03:07 (seventeen years ago)

I don't get this hatred. If ILM usually likes pop, then what is wrong with good pop like Pink??

At least, Pink isn't built on awful and repetitive and tuneless R&B. Instead she is built on classic melodic powerpop/punk pop, which is extremely much better.

Pink >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Beyonce & Rihanna!!!!

Is this the first time Hongro self-parodes?

Moka, Monday, 20 October 2008 07:39 (seventeen years ago)

You reckon he is?

Anyroad, would have voted "Last to know" as it's just the first of the "I'm a famous rock star and who are you moan moan moan" songs.

Mark G, Monday, 20 October 2008 08:20 (seventeen years ago)

Seriously, if all acts like Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and Beyonce disappeared and were replaced by acts like Pink and Avril Lavigne, today's kids would have had much bettter musical taste.
