Ned makes a good point -- while searching last night, I kept finding things I'd forgotten he'd done. And not small things; he took the cover of Thelonious Alone in San Francisco, one of the first Monk records I bought. (Partly 'cause I dug Monk solo, and partly 'cause of the great photograph of TM on the street car.) He just did so much!

According to Claxton's book Jazz Seen, Monk didn't like the idea until he'd had a few champagne cocktails. Then he was all for it.
