Bah I don't have Excursions.

But out of the first two American Gigolo is the better. "Soul on Soul" with Marc Almond is an absolutely massive tune and I love it. Also it gets extra marks for the Mitsu song which is house music at its best.

I still love Futurism but it's not really a proper mix album and shouldn't have tried to be perhaps.

got american gigolo yesterday, haven't listened properly yet, but Dopplerffekt's Porno Actress and the jeff mills track are standing out right now, they're just grimier and muckier, the mills track anyway, i just love how he bolts his muddy tech straight onto the electro...

What number is the Jeff Mills one and how far in roughly? Sorry it's just mine is a massive mp3 so I'm unsure.

the hacker remix of "soul on soul" is indeed fantastic...the original version bing horrendous trance-by-numbers.

It's a tie between American Gigolo and Excursions or rather: A.G. has Vitalic's insane 'You Prefer Cocaine', Excursions has Bolz Bolz sublime 'Take A Walk'. And both have a great Jeff Mills track.

That Vitalic guy needs to record a full album fast. Whaddaguy.

I'm loving Excursions more, playing almost constantly (except for Kate Bush's 'The Sensual World' which I've dug out in for the first time in ages), it's really great, but then, I've only had it a week. Overall, 'Gigolo' is probably the winner.

ronan, its about 20 or 21 in, right before the 'out in the space' track. btw, you should check mills' step to enchantment...

Previous thread here, albeit before "Excursions" came out.

I have "Excursions" and "Gigolo", but not "Futurism" as I have most of the tracks from it anyway on other discs. I made a comparison between the first two on the Felix thread, so won't repeat myself.

They're all good. Futurism is the most comprehensive, but has no flow - the FC Kahuna track is great but feels like you've put your car into the wrong gear - and there's a lot of padding. Excursions, not unexpectedly, sits at the house end of this spectrum, American Gigolo being more like a dark, resolutely uncamp hi-nrg. Gigolo is brilliant, when it's on my walkman my daily walk from Swindon station to a shabby business park twenty minutes away seems like a cool thing to do. No mean feat, that.
