How does the scale work? If 5 is your average rock band - I'd say they were maybe 6, just slightly more proggy than average.

3 is your average rock band. 10 is, i don't know, van der graaf generator

5, they were never that skilled in terms of musicianship.

maybe the core members weren't, but working with Fripp and Belew has to count for something, right?

Would a prog band hire Bernie Worrell?

(follow-up: wasn't Parliament/Funkadelic ultimately a prog band? Discuss)

Who says a funk band can't play prog music

The obvious choice of 4 gets an easy win, I see.

Again depends on how you define prog. I think '77 is the most proggy-sounding, after that they're far too interesting to be classed as prog ...

rjberry, Friday, 31 October 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

Overall I would give them a 3 in proggy. 4 punky. 7.3 new wavey.

In worldmusicy they went from 2 ("And She Was") to 9.7 ("I Zimbra").

Ye Mad Puffin, Friday, 31 October 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

You mean they went from 9.7 to 2 to 8.5 (Naked).

Patrick South, Friday, 31 October 2008 18:13 (seventeen years ago)

four years pass...

with our love is strangely proggy--a million little sections and slightly math-rock sounding!
