Amazingly there is no specific ZTT thread, so here goes, as this boxset is as good a reason as anything.

Out November.

I think disc 1 is just about perfect.

Obviously, I would have sacrificed the time on Propaganda's Thought, and just dropped the full 12" of Dr Mabuse, and left out White Rabbit cover for P-Machinery, but hey, I can live with that.

No All Saints?
Hmm....

Mark G, Friday, 17 October 2008 08:35 (seventeen years ago)

also ..

re : (The early years, and early hits)

then WTF is David Jordan (which is dire) doing on that disc !?

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 08:41 (seventeen years ago)

I remember trawling emusic a while ago, and seeing loads of ZTT compilations featuring artists I have never heard of. For all that they were in the wilderness, chart wise, they were producing loads of stuff. This would be around the time that All Saints were signed to them (and were a duo? and were called All saints 1664 or something mysterious)

Still, it's their box set I guess. Does their booklet have a "we were a bit crap for a while" / discography section?

Mark G, Friday, 17 October 2008 08:44 (seventeen years ago)

No "Wild Hearts" by Roy Orbison, no cred.

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 08:56 (seventeen years ago)

Also the forthcoming album of cover versions by Seal is now officially the worst album ever made.

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 08:57 (seventeen years ago)

Also, didn't "Slave To The Rhythm" come out on ZTT?

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 08:57 (seventeen years ago)

When the inevitable poll happens I'm voting "Tunes Splits the Atom".

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 October 2008 09:00 (seventeen years ago)

I had no idea re this : http://www.discogs.com/artist/All+Saints+1.9.7.5.

Was well past caring re ZTT by this stage.

As MC said in another thread, Hearts of Darkness by Hoodlum Priest was probably the last "great" ZTT album.

No idea re the booklet as yet to get this.

xpost : MC - was wondering if the lack of Slave is a clearance issue, but will be checking out the 'hidden tracks' to see if its one of those ..

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 09:01 (seventeen years ago)

re Tunes Splits the Atom.

was watching the video last night, and realised that they pushed the Stone Roses loop way up in the mix, whereas for the released audio, its a lot more back in the mix.

intentional ?

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 09:02 (seventeen years ago)

As far as I recall the Roses sample wasn't that low in the mix? It actually made me not hate the Stone Roses for the first time.

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 October 2008 09:04 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Hoodlum Priest, wtf?

(I'm guessing he probably bought the rights back)

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 09:11 (seventeen years ago)

Nasty Rox: Because the world needed a po-faced Pop Will Eat Itself

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Friday, 17 October 2008 09:12 (seventeen years ago)

The Nasty Rox Inc. CD I've got may yet form a workable pension plan...

On the upside it's nice to have the Annihilation mix of Two Tribes finally available on CD. Surprised at its relative unavailability since it's unquestionably the best mix and the main reason why everyone rushed out and bought it first week.

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 09:14 (seventeen years ago)

re Hoodlum Priest - suspect he did indeed buy it back, hence why its available online for free from his site and has been for quite a while.

re Annhiliation mix : genuine shiver up spine last night when that kicked in on the stereo.

A fantastic 12" version .. and was the moment my inner collector scum disease really kicked in.

The Nasty Rox Inc. CD I've got may yet form a workable pension plan...

you have teased re this elsewhere.
people dont believe me that i once saw CA$H on cd, so can you confirm, you do have it once and for all sir ?

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 10:05 (seventeen years ago)

Odd choices for 808 State. Other than that feel out of touch for not knowing that Raging Speedhorn were on ZTT(!).

Treblekicker, Friday, 17 October 2008 10:14 (seventeen years ago)

(xp)

Yes sir, I do have it on CD - bought from Our Price in High Street Ken (RIP) and bought on CD only because they didn't have it on cassette.

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 10:18 (seventeen years ago)

(also it was the same price as the vinyl - one of those "introductory/new artist" offers)

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

phew - for years i thought i had dreamt seeing it (false memory kinda thing).
nice one.
i have cassette/vinyl.
the cd has the extra tracks doesn't it ?
also - i suspect you know that you are probably the one person who has it on cd.
not even the labels archivist (ian peel) has it.
he is trying to get it reissued of course, but as always the world of ZTT is a strange beast. afterall, they reissued the Honky debut with an extra disc of dross as opposed to making something that the ZTT collectors actually want !

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 10:27 (seventeen years ago)

oh and it was Our Price/Leeds that I saw it in.

love the fact that in the video, for Escape .. the band actually mime to the Chuck Brown samples.
innocent times.

promo copy has no extra tracks that i can find.

I have also come to realise, that Snobbery and Decay is the second best record the label released. (Mabuse will always be my all time fave 12")

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

Ten tracks on the CD, including CD-only remixes of "Wooba Wubbaa" and "Escape From New York" (well, these did appear on the singles but you know what I mean)...

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 10:35 (seventeen years ago)

BTW : just heard - several tracks were not cleared.
guess that is the reason for the Grace Jones ommission

mark e, Friday, 17 October 2008 10:49 (seventeen years ago)

I guess the Roy Orbison rights issue is in a bit of a mess.

A. FIND MISSING LINK B. PUT IT TOGETHER C. BANG! (Marcello Carlin), Friday, 17 October 2008 10:52 (seventeen years ago)

I was unlucky enough to witness the full horror of das Psych-oh! Rangers live, inflicted on an unwilling audience in a prestigous support slot at a major London Venue. Could be the worst live act I've ever seen, certainly in a venue where people had paid to get in. Tax loss? YTS scheme? Who knows.

Soukesian, Friday, 17 October 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

BTW: just heard - several tracks were not cleared.

There are three hidden tracks on disc two.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 17 October 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

Mark E so OTM about "Snobbery and Decay."

But what, nothing from that godawful Rocky Horro thing? For shame, sirs. For shame.

Telephone thing, Friday, 17 October 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

er, Rocky HorroR. With an R, dontcha know.

Telephone thing, Friday, 17 October 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

two years pass...

more ZTT goodness to help relieve the heavy wallets of the labels collector scum.
