Oh man, I love him as a pianist. He's one of those rare people, like Monk or Bill Evans, with an instantly recognizable style and touch.

the 70s duet album with Ray Brown "This One's For Blanton" is beautiful. I've got a tape of some comp released the 80s/90s that has solos, duos and trios from the 30s to the 60s. Some cool stuff with Strayhorn and Earl Hines, not to mention the Jimmy Blanton sides.
