"Everytime You Touch Me", for the unadulterated Eurodance joy, plus the heavenly piano riff.

Tuomas, Monday, 20 October 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

I might've considered "Hymn" if the album would've included the "This Is My Dream" single mix or the "European Edit", but for some reason the album version consists only of the piano bit from the latter.

Tuomas, Monday, 20 October 2008 21:33 (seventeen years ago)

Also, "Everytime You Touch Me" brings back sweet memories of teenage discos and first kisses.

Tuomas, Monday, 20 October 2008 21:34 (seventeen years ago)

"Feeling So Real" reminds me of that jump-up-and-down-arm-windmill-dance where people would inadvertently punch each other in the face.

I had this but didn't listen to it much at the time, I certainly don't remember it being quite so fucking nuts. I don't listen to his later stuff either, too boring, but he definitely did the right thing leaving the shit rave and cheap fake hardcore behind.

God Moving etc definitely the winner here. And I still kinda Like When It's Cold I'd Like to Die, in a guilty miserabilist way.

Now I'm gonna listen to Includes Special Bonus CD "Underwater" (43:11 mins)

why is awesome Bring Back My Happiness video not on youtube?

Cittaslow Mazza (blueski), Thursday, 30 October 2008 00:03 (seventeen years ago)

twelve years pass...

i know ILM hates Moby,
and yeah i totally get all that.
however until today i had never heard this album.
it's truly off the hook.
extremes throughout, and sometimes within the same track.
i can't deny, i am rather loving it.

mark e, Wednesday, 11 August 2021 20:09 (four years ago)

Yeah this album is great.

The Move EP is the winner though - like the best aspects of this album compressed into a bite sized package.

Tim F, Wednesday, 11 August 2021 20:52 (four years ago)

There's a lot I don't like about him, but I don't hate Moby. Besides a homemade disc of highlights, this and Play are the only two Moby albums that I own, and I love them both.

aegis philbin (crüt), Thursday, 12 August 2021 00:16 (four years ago)

it's a bit more chill than that and maybe a bit basic but you're familiar with his alter ego voodoo child's 'the end of everything'?

Move is wondrous.

Fast stuff on this is unspeakably awful. Slower stuff not so terrible.

i carry the torch for disco inauthenticity (Eric H.), Thursday, 12 August 2021 19:05 (four years ago)

re Ambient :
i picked up a cd copy of this a few months ago.
the mastering levels are insane.
quiet and chilled vs OI OI OI
most unexpected.

Can't seem to find the hardcore punk version of Everytime You Touch Me, anyone know what it was called? It was on a tape free with a UK magazine (Select?)

if you like the ravier aspects of EIW, definitely check out "Everything Is Wrong: Non-Stop DJ Mix By Evil Ninja Moby"
many great versions here, including Westbam mix of "Feeling So Real"
and 2 very different mixes of "All That I Need Is To Be Loved"

there is a chapter in porcelain where he describes coming back from a tour in Europe and feeling out of sync
because he still wants to play happy anthems and everybody moved on to K and darker styles
(which maybe where the title came from)

the album and the DJ mix especially feel like a response to that
