I think it's just 4/4. There are 16 beats in the loop before it repeats.

Dog/Face/Chain (res), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 05:17 (seventeen years ago)

Why are POTS rapping about Australia?

d-_-b that song btw (which is in oddly syncopated 4/4, yeah)

Teddy Riley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 05:31 (seventeen years ago)

yeah just yr basic smooth-funk 4/4. pretty nice.

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 05:35 (seventeen years ago)

(it's basically a 2-bar sequence. kick drum would take more time to map, but the snare is pretty easy -- it's a sixteenth before the 2 in the first bar, and a sixteenth after the 2 in the second bar, then right on the 4 in both bars.)

And he mentioned the Gold Coast too!!!!!1

Teddy Riley (The Reverend), Tuesday, 21 October 2008 08:08 (seventeen years ago)

Why are POTS rapping about Australia?

they come here a lot, guess they're boasting to the rest of the world*. there was a gig/video shoot for this song (at the Civic on Pitt St, if you know it wilter) a few months ago, looks like they came up with a bigger budget afterwards

*this is pretty much aimed at getting on Oz radio in the summer, barbecue-themed hip-hop is like a cossie rash come January

(i'm kinda sad i didn't see this thread first, it's like opening up a newspaper and finding that the crossword has already been filled out)

Jordan, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 13:37 (seventeen years ago)

so jordan, was tipsy right? it's still blowing my mind, but i'm rhythmically retarded

jaxon, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 15:42 (seventeen years ago)

is one section of the sample (the bass part) longer than the other?

jaxon, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 15:43 (seventeen years ago)

no, it's a two bar phrase. in the first bar, the keyboard/bass part starts on the one. in the second bar, the keyboard plays three notes, that start on the first eighth note after "1" and ends on "3".

it might help you hear it better if you listen to that phrase at 2:09 where they have big handclaps on 2, 4, (not 3), and 4 again. just rewind that until you feel how the parts lay against a normal backbeat.

Jordan, Tuesday, 21 October 2008 15:49 (seventeen years ago)

big handclaps on 2, 4, (not 3), and 4 again

this should say 2, 4, (not 2), and 4
