i still think sinner in me remix is the best thing he's done. it's the only thing post-achso that retains my interest (apart from the sei est drum album, go back to making more laser precise micro-tools please!)

you might not get that one, if you don't have a good system or headphones, because the bass is LOW.

unfortunately that video cuts off the last two minutes, which introduces a new bassline.

For sure one of Ricardo Villalobos dopest tracks is "808 The Bassqueen", released in 1999 on the Lo-Fi Stereo record label. But if you want to listen to the blueprint for this dope and in demand track, you should listen to the A1 track "Le Spleen For E." of this EP. This must be the original and first version of "808 The Bassqueen", here you can hear the real 808 acid bass. Killer tune.

i voted 808 cos it's lovely. think my favourite remix is 'cell phone's dead'. never really got all the 'sinner in me' love but maybe that's cos i have a bit of a thing against dave gahan's voice that i can't put my finger on. also i have a suspicion that 'blood on my hands' remix may be the best thing he's done though admittedly i haven't heard everything.

Enfants, mostly because hearing the 'yah-yah-ay-ya!' bit unexpectedly on the dancefloor has made me happy so many times.

In another instance of 808 vs achso, I think I'm going with 808.

In a way I kind of hope 808 The Bassqueen wins to prove to the people that think dude's just throws around nutty percussion lines for 15+ minutes that he's much more.

I never bothered to find out if "Que Belle Epoque" and "Que Belle Epoque 2006" are significantly different. I've only heard the latter but it's a favourite of mine. For me this comes down to:

- 808 the Bassqueen
- Que Belle Epoque (2006?)
- Frank Meuller Melodram
- Achso
- Enfants (Chant)

With "Fizheur Zizheur" slightly below those.

I'm leaning towards "808 the Bassqueen" but want to listen to these again before making a decision.

by the way, not that i expect anyone to vote for it, but this - tomorrov cocktail / ananas (perlon) 2000 - is a split 12"

although i suppose he has an involvement in the split side :)

I really wish I could vote one but I've only listen to 5 of these at most. I'll just wait and download the top 5 when the results come in.

The bass in that one is so stunning. And how much is saved for the end, and how little it takes to create such a difference..

Hate to be pedantic but I noticed For Disco 2 isn't listed. I don't know how many votes it would have gotten but "Mormax" off it is definitely one of my favourite Villalobos productions for sure (I'd venture to say the breakdown in the middle of it is one of the man's finest moments).

I still don't think i'd vote for it but "mormax" is like top five original productions for sure.

Not a "single" so much as... what's that word record companies use these days for album tracks they expect to get radio play when they can't be arsed releasing singles?

Whereas "What You Say Is More Than I Can Say" came out on a 12 inch that preceded Alcachofa.

the original "easy lee" was never released as a single. there was only a remixes ep. (alcachofa remixes)

i didn't include the for disco only stuff because i wanted to restrict the poll to villalobos productions only (though i messed up by including the "tommorov cocktail" single which is actually a collab as resolved noted). i dislike polls on ilm in general and i dislike them even more when there are so many choices that the vote either gets too split or many choices receive zero votes.

"what's wrong my friends?" is one of my favorites and i am a bit disappointed that people aren't talking about his perlon releases more. they're all a bit more chance-y and adhere to the perlon take on house, but i always find them to be a treat.

also, count me in as a fan of how villalobos almost always waits to drop the bass.

the alcachofa tools single is so ace (both "waiworinao" and "fool's garden" blow my mind. the former is villalobos doing basement jaxx and the latter is him doing depeche mode ("waiting for the night to fall").) i might not be able to vote in my own poll.

it might be cool if polls here had input boxes for numbers instead of radio buttons then you could rank stuff and everything wouldn't have to be the best or the worst or some binary choice blah blah blah.

"what you say..." is aka "halma" as lucas noted above. i was listening to it last night and was taken aback at how fast it is.

Have not heard anything pre 808 ... looooove Achso, though, Sieso in particular. going with that.

for disco only 2 is probably my favorite example of his "out" side, but i wouldn't have picked it over 808. it's got some really great rhythms and melodies and dramatic moments.
