I am pretty sure Steve Harley will walk this poll, but my favourite is "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination".

"I am pretty sure Steve Harley will walk this poll"

are you from mars? i'm pretty sure you're the only person on here who's ever even heard it.

scott seward, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not sure if I heard the whole thing or not, but I heard most of it and it's really Harley well past his prime.

It did actually make #28 on the UK album chart, so there are a few more people who have heard it. :)

It is recently unavailable on CD, but was recently available as a double CD together with a Cockney Rebel compilation named "A Closer Look".

i don't think john miles even had his stuff released in the u.s. maybe i'm wrong. he had exactly 0% presence here. was he big in norway, geir? "music" is totally demented. the song, that is.

scott seward, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

it's amazing though that "year of the cat" can be heard somewhere on the radio in the u.s. 24 hours a day every day of the week since the week it was released.

scott seward, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 00:30 (seventeen years ago)

I am a bit too young to remember, but looking at lista.vg.no, it seems his later 70s albums did surprisingly well. "Zaragon" from 1978 did even reach #3.

Regarding "Year Of The Cat", the song is transcendent enough to fit perfectly into radio. The rest of the album is way better though.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 09:37 (seventeen years ago)

^^^I disagree, nothing on Year Of The Cat touches the title track, and I feel the same way about Time Passages...I love both records though, especially this time of year...

Missing from this poll: Ambrosia - Somewhere I've Never Travelled. Not that anyone would be likely vote for it.

I bought his 1976 LP Stranger in the City, released on London Records in the UK, for 50 cents or $1 last year. Liked it okay enough to keep, but can't say it blew me away. Have never heard anything else by him.

Oops -- released on London Records in the US, I mean. (Though maybe in the UK too, who knows.) Anyway, my point is he definitely did get released in the States at least once.

I believe he was on Decca. Which means the albums were probably released on London records in the 80s like most Decca titles.

The current issues are on Lemon Recordings. "Rebel" and "Stranger In The City" sound OK, but "Zaragon" is seemingly transferred from a very worn out vinyl LP that hasn't even been properly cleaned before it was transferred.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I've listened to "Prima Donna" tons of times! Used to love it, and although I now think it probably hasn't dated too well, it gets my nostalgia vote.
