Between these three:
2. Teenage Kicks - The Undertones
4. Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've?) - Buzzcocks
27. Dancing The Night Away - The Motors

I ultimately went for The Motors.

Jesus. This disc is absolutely the hardest one to choose from for me. Going to have to give this to the Mekons, even though there's at least a dozen other tracks that could easily take the #1 spot depending on when you ask me. "Ever Fallen In Love" is excluded from consideration for being too perfect and a boring answer.

"Ready Steady Go" - just a blast, with no baggage.

Soukesian, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:08 (seventeen years ago)

The Mekons!

That's a fine disc, by the way...

Mark G, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:32 (seventeen years ago)

"Borstal Breakout", narrowly beating out "Action Time Vision". Lot of boring, over-rated shit that I never need to hear again on this comp.

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:34 (seventeen years ago)

Well, maybe not a lot, on second glance.

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:34 (seventeen years ago)

ha ha ha,,,,...

Mark G, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:35 (seventeen years ago)

Bored of "classic" bands more than anything. Seriously there's 5 tunes tops on here I'd vote for. The two I mentioned plus Dury, Suicide and the Mekons.

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:40 (seventeen years ago)

I voted Fear.

Might have gone for Borstal Breakout but I missed that one skimming through. A few of these songs are not the choices I'd have made for these bands. I mean I love Sheena but surely it's been comped 000s of times already, they did other songs you know. And Solitary Confinement >>>> Neutron Bomb.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 08:50 (seventeen years ago)

Where Were You? Just ahead of Action Time Vision and then Warsaw.

Dr.C, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 10:39 (seventeen years ago)

"Teenage Kicks." Almost went with Buzzcocks, but I prefer "I Don't Mind" among their singles.

Vulves A Colorier (Pancakes Hackman), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 12:01 (seventeen years ago)

I once went to Italy on a school trip and the hotel jukebox had only 2 english tunes: Dury's Sexndrugsnrocknroll and Love is Like Oxygen by the Sweet.
Both got played so many times i could still recite the words to both verbatim. On that basis, Ian Dury gets this one, though many are worthy here.

Teenage Kicks

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 14:02 (seventeen years ago)

I thought Sonic Reducer was on this, but if not, MEKONS

Dancing The Night Away - The Motors

this song is incredible and gets my vote, fabulous melody

Euler, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)

"Ever Fallen In Love" may be boring a choice, but it is correct. Very tempting to vote for the ultra-classic "Good Sculptures" since I feel nobody else will.

I just bought this comp, by the way!

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 22 October 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

so it came down to "Ready Steady Go," "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll," "Ever Fallen In Love," "The Wait" or "Shenna Is a Puck Rocker." I picked Generation X.

Bee OK, Friday, 24 October 2008 01:35 (seventeen years ago)

bump, because this is a really, really good set of songs.

so VOTE

This is the best so far. Modern Lovers is great, ATV is great, Buzzcocks because they are all, pretty much, great.

But the Chorus of Sex and drugs is just so life affirming...so that wins. Keep your silly ways or throw them out the window
The wisdom of your ways, I've been there and I know
Lots of other ways, what a jolly bad show
If all you ever do is business you don't like

Sex and drugs and rock and roll
Sex and drugs and rock and roll
Sex and drugs and rock and roll
Is very good indeed

Every bit of clothing ought to make you pretty
You can cut the clothing, grey is such a pity
I should wear the clothing of Mr. Walter Mitty
See my tailor, he's called Simon, I know it's going to fit

Here's a little piece of advice
You're quite welcome it is free
Don't do nothing that is cut price
You know what that'll make you be
They will try their tricky device
Trap you with the ordinary
Get your teeth into a small slice
The cake of liberty

black flag - wasted.
not the best but the one that popped into my head more often than the others during my life time
