Was at a party on Saturday and the DJ put on the original version of You Don't Love Me (No No No) and it blew me away, having only heard Dawn Penn's reggae one and subsequent remixes/samples. It's 60s R&B with this fabulous guitar riff that sounds almost exactly like Dylan's Obviously 5 Believers, which Dylan may well have ripped off. He did tell me who did this version, but I was too pissed to remember the next day. Any help?

She recorded a small number of unsuccessful tunes for Prince Buster around 1966. In 1967 she recorded and released the rocksteady single, "You Don’t Love Me (No, No, No)" (in fact a remake of a 1961 blues tune called "You Don't Love Me" by Willie Cobbs, which itself was a remake of Bo Diddley's 1955 song "She's Fine, She's Mine" aka "You Don't Love Me"), produced by Coxsone Dodd at Studio One.[1] She also recorded "Why Did You Leave" at Studio One, "Broke My Heart" for Bunny Lee, "I Let You Go Boy" and covers of To Sir with Love and Here Comes the Sun.
From the wiki.

I think it's safe to say Dawn Penn's version is the definitive one.
Eve did a sadly ill-advised cover of this on Scorpion.

Wow that is really good. And the backing line sounds like it was lifted for... "Power of Soul" by Band of Gypsies

I mean the original Willie Cobbs version. There's an inferior '94 version by cobbs on slsk, but I'm desperate to get the '61 version on tim's link xpost. An old friend is leaving town and I want to put it on a compilation CD for him.

If you're in a hurry it might be worth dropping the $0.89 for a DL from Amazon? (It's on the "Fernwoood Rhythm and Blues From Memphis" comp which I am intending to pick up at some point).
― Tim, Monday, 1 December 2008 12:13 (seventeen years ago)
thanks tim, will probably do that. hope some of it finds it way to cobbs.
