Country

I don't think I've heard "Shotgun Willie" but otherwise I am a fan of the top 10.

Satan is Real should be higher on the list.

Also, Viva Terlingua at 41 makes sense and is fine, but there should be more Jerry Jeff on there overall imho.

also LOL at Ween & Hank Williams III both being in the top 50.

shotgun willie is tight, certainly in my top 5 willie records. i think i got it for a buck ninety-nine at princeton record ex. though i fully admit to preferring the whiskey river/ stay all night on willie & the family live to the versions on here.

John Hartford -- Aereo-Plain
What an awesome album. I'm surprised more folks who dig quirky stoner/outsider folk don't champion this record.

Huh, I will have to check it out.

It's of the bluegrass/country-folk persuasion.

The first side of Shotgun Willie is much better than the second.

interesting changes to the list when you include "child genres"

Hardly any. I don't approach country music in album-sized chunks. I have heard 1, 4, 9 and 16 all the way through, but that's all from the first 100, and I doubt there would be any after that.

ian you should definitely check out that John Hartford record.

It's more like "favorite country albums of rock fans". Which is a perfectly fine category. Or even more like "favorite folk rock records that rock fans call country". Which is also a perfectly fine category: you can't fuck with Townes. Though lol @ Handsome Family.

Only heard Satan Is Real from the top 100.

Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 26 October 2008 08:42 (seventeen years ago)

Have heard John Prine and both albums by Gram Parsons. Have also heard "Red Headed Stranger", all five "American Recordings albums, "Nashville Skyline" and "Other Voices, Other Rooms"

Should definitely check out "Cowboy In Sweden", which with its mixture of country and chamber pop should be right up my alley.

Very surprised there are more than 10 albums I've heard ahead of "Pieces Of The Sky", which I thought belonged to the "canon" to a larger extent than mots of the others here.

The only ones I have:

4. Gram Parsons - Grievous Angel (1974)
16. Gram Parsons - GP (1973)
114. Laura Cantrell - Not the Tremblin' Kind (2000)

and I don't like the Gram Parsons ones.
