"Christ, I don't know if I can have any kind of a future with somebody who thinks American Graffiti is at best affably mediocre."

I've said this more than once.

LIL HOOSANE (PappaWheelie V), Monday, 27 October 2008 04:23 (seventeen years ago)

LOL I can definitely see a lack of appreciation for American Graffiti being a relationship deal-breaker!

RE: tast

Kind of off-topic but I have a friend who bought a girl on a first date to the passion of the Christ.

Went on a date there a few weeks ago and the girl's favourite comedies were King of Queens and Becker. I kind of knew then and there that it wasn't going to work out...

corrie ham (roxymuzak), Saturday, 1 November 2008 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

um, I will never enter a relationship with a girl who is into the Maury Povich show...no matter how hard up I am (and I'm pretty hard up)...

I'm 30, and I hate Seinfeld. I do not want to waste a single minute of my life with those incredibly unpleasant, shallow, self-centered people. (It probably also doesn't hurt that I had a high school friend who was irrationally obsessed and actually forced me to watch episode after episode against my will.)

There's a reason for you.

So there.

Lame girls are cool

by Doc Taco

I once met a girl who was so un-hip. She had never heard a Pixies song, and early on in our dating she gave me a mix-CD with Shakira on it. Continuing to date her was a tough pill to swallow, to say the least. But we persevered, and 4 years later we are married and the envy of all the couples we know. We get along great and are very happy. She doesn't complain about me spending money at the record store and I don't try to make her watch zombie movies. Also I have suceeded in getting her into the New Pornographers, the Mountain Goats, and Okkervil River. The lessen here is that my smug pop-culture self-importance almost cost me the world.

by jeesushaych

My girlfriend of many years likes very few things I like and I hate almost all of her music,tv shows etc. When she first flipped through my CDs she picked up Led ZeppelinIII and exclaimed "Led Zepelleeneey, I've heard of this..."
We get along well for the most part because we're both fairly easygoing, but the little shit is getting harder to tolerate lately. I found it difficult to talk to her when I discovered the new Katy Perry album on her IPod. Are we heading inexorably to the end of our relationship?...(Sorry if this belongs in Savage Love...)...

The Simpsons use to be on my list...

by Joseph never logs in

Until I dated a girl who liked it a little too much. I didn't think it was possible because I can have conversations with friends in only simpsons qoutes. I mean nothing has shaped my adult life more than the Simpsons and when I found out she loved it and could qoute it as much as me I knew she was a keeper.

Then I went to her apartment and dear lord she has simpsons sheets and simpsons toys all over her place the fridge was even full of buzz cola from the 7/11 promotion (which she drove 5 hours to get because there isn't a 7/11 here). the only thing she watched was the simpsons and she would want to role play as marge and homer during sex. I was simpsoned out after 3 months of dating her.

I know how you feel

by me, too

I was dating an absolutely stunning woman several years ago, who thought Madonna was the end all and be all. Now, I'm no fan of Madonna's music (mediocre, at best), but we went to see Swept Away on opening night (my wanting to see Underworld instead was considered "delusional"). Anyway, there was one, ONE, other couple in the theatre at the beginning of this stinker and the guy (lucky for him) got up about twenty minutes into it, left his date alone, and didn't come back until the end. So, the movie's over, the credit's are rolling and the usher comes by while sweeping the row in front us and asks us what we thought of the movie. I'm about to pipe in about how I thought it was probably the worst movie (no hyperbole) I have ever seen when my date starts gushing on and on about it how it was "so moving, so beautiful, so touching... blah, blah, blah, blah, blah". I tell you, when she did, I knew it wouldn't last.

Eminem and Sex.

by Concerny

A girl I knew once broke up with her boyfriend because when she told him that they couldn't listen to Eminem during sex (after a month or so of it), he just put his headphones on and fucked her while mouthing the words to "Without Me."

True, sad story.

Also, how about common sense and more general cultural attitudes? I doubt anyone here would ever date a Scientologist, but what about a person who didn't buckle their seatbelt? Is smoking or vegetarianism a deal-breaker?

And what's more annoying, talking during the movies or getting really, really mad because your sig. oth. does?

I don't think I could date a girl who didn't use any drugs. I can deal with her not liking weed or booze or coke, but if she didn't like any of the above things would probably get kind of awkward. On the other hand, I'm way too smart to get attached to anyone who is into meth or heroin.
