What was that drum machine/sequencer/music making thing?

Sorry for yet another "What was this...?" thread but I remember seeing video for some sort of sequencer or drum machine or some sort of midi? hardware that had light up pads where a row of lights would move up and whatever pad you light up would trigger a sample... I think? Anybody have a clue what I'm referring to?

The first and most famous drum machine to behave in that way was the Roland TR-808 (1980). It had buttons (not 'pads'), representing steps of a bar; if lit up, by pressing the button, a sound would play on that step of the bar.

Other Roland machines, eg TR-606, TR-707, TR-909, had a similar interface. The idea has been copied by other manufacturers since then.

yeah, was going to say that either the monome or the tenori on would more or less fit the bill of what you are referring to upthread, they're pretty different in terms of learning curves/intended audiences.
