I think you could do a whole thread based around terrible Tool side projects.
― Bachman-Turner Maximum Overdrive (J3ff T.), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:06 (seventeen years ago)
Dee Dee only had one single while he was in the Ramones. It was mostly a post-band project, not a side project...
But that one single was probably worse than Puscifer
― Whiney G. Soundgarden (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 01:15 (seventeen years ago)
I don't know what Puscifer is, but on the strength of the cover posted at the top of the thread, I'd say that is much worse than poor Dee Dee.

Doing that record with that terrible rock "singer" was pretty embarrassing for Mouse on Mars.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 10:15 (seventeen years ago)
It's a good record; better than anything they'd done solo since Idiology, if not before.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 10:22 (seventeen years ago)
Also, it's MARK E SMITH, Tuomas.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 10:23 (seventeen years ago)
Well yeah, I was gonna add the qualifier that it's not like their career has been that great anyway lately. Ever since they decided they want to be a real band with proper vocals and all, it seems like they've just gradually gone worse and worse, but getting this guy to "sing" for them was really the rock bottom.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 10:28 (seventeen years ago)

Well yeah, I do know he's supposed to be some sort of punk demi-god around here, but that doesn't change the fact that he sounds horrible to me. I never really got the "punk" idea that singing badly can somehow be as good as (or even better than) singing well.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 11:05 (seventeen years ago)

What did they have that was going while the band were extant? Mr Bungle, Imperial Teen, couple of Patton solo things, Brujeria... acquired tastes I'll grant you but Dee Dee King was the second post here
― The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 11:36 (seventeen years ago)
I read that as Mike Patton's worst side project being Faith No More.

Standing in the Spotlight is the album by Dee Dee Ramone, under the rap moniker Dee Dee King, released in 1989. The album is sometimes considered to be one of the pinnacles of modern culture, while others argue the whole affair was tongue-in-cheek. It also gave Dee Dee Ramone the distinction of being one of the first white rappers.
Dee Dee Ramone's wikipedia pages have some weird highly questionable shit in them.
― Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)
was wondering how long this thread would last before tin machine were given a nudge.totally dont agree.while the band were not that great (other than a couple of songs), the whole process was necessary for bowie to cleanse away the memories of the 80 excess haircut era. also, i reckon those albums dont sound half as bad as people like to suggest.
if blur ever make another album, then i'd like to bet a fw quid that they will become a viable addition to this thread.

Much as I love a lot of his stuff, Patton has put a fair bit of shit out there to be honest.
― chap, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 21:31 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah but at the risk of overly splitting hairs, he didn't have that much going on while FNM were still a band
― The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)
actually, come to think of it, even worse than puscifer would be dave pajo's "metal" project dead child. just beyond horrible. and melvins side-project altamont was really bad too. (can't remember which melvin did that one...)
i haven't heard enough of j mascis's "metal" band witch to say whether they belong here, but they probably do.

Minuteflag was GREAT! I'm in the minority here, I know, but however noodly it was, it was a uniquely noodly in a way that kinda went in a good direction that was neither Minutemen nor Ginn/Black Flag somehow.

hahaha, that's for sure! i lied to kim once and told her i really liked the album after it had come out. i was drunk and was trying to think of something nice to say to her.

Altamont was Dale Crover I think. Witch doesn't really have much metal going on, more uptempoish thud-rock that I'm not sure Mascis (the drummer) has a lot of musical input into. Dead Child I couldn't understand people being bothered about one way or the other
― The Slash My Father Wrote (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

"Dead Child I couldn't understand people being bothered about one way or the other"
i actually found the first album to be offensively bad. and it never would have been put out by anyone if he hadn't been involved. i mean, there are vanity projects and there are one off goofs and then there are things that probably seem like a fun idea to people at the time, but that should never actually be released and instead handed out to friends and family as gag gifts.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 23:04 (seventeen years ago)
Gorillaz global success anulates the nomination. I think for a band to truly be considered as the worst one it has to provoke equal disgust amongst audio philistines and connoseurs, or complete indifference, at least.
The Raconteurs and a huge deal of Patton's side-projects like say, Mr. bungle or Fantomas receive polarizing reviews and have a fanbase big enough to nulify the vote.
I'd give my vote to Puscifer as well. There's absolutely no redeeming qualities to that piece of shit.
― Moka, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 05:47 (seventeen years ago)
I'd like to nominate both Mike Patton and Nick Cave for creating (what seems like) hundreds of pointless side-project bands to make some music that could have just been made by their primary bands.
