(obv i couldn't find a prince video on the internet)

Jordan, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

not a huge fan of either song (at least in relation to other singles those artists released off the same albums), but c'mon, it has to be "Purple Rain."

some dude, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

dope guitar solos

max, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

Jordan, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

yeah i was thinking of just doing a poll on the guitar solos

Jordan, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

November Rain is horrible.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:10 (seventeen years ago)

inconceivable that anyone could prefer guns'n'roses over prince, this is like the gnr vs aaliyah 'one in a million' thread, it's almost an insult to put prince and aaliyah to put them up against those fucking squawking losers

lex pretend, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

what type of person would pick november rain?

Whiney G. Soundgarden (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:15 (seventeen years ago)

someone probably too methed out to use a computer.

Whiney G. Soundgarden (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

okay now ppl, "November Rain" is a perfectly fine song, it just isn't "Purple Rain" which is a perfect song

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

i thought this was to compare the videos?

the sir weeze, Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

Someone who utterly loathes Prince and has done since the 80s is the kind of person who would vote for November Rain out of sheer perversity. (And also, the original version of November Rain is actually really pretty, though no one believes me.)

post-apocalyptic time jazz (Masonic Boom), Tuesday, 28 October 2008 19:34 (seventeen years ago)

I PURPLU FRAIN

Yeah, have not smoked that November shit.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 02:24 (seventeen years ago)

what type of person would pick november rain? Thats a little negative, its a perfectly decent song in its own right (it now sounds awful from that description)....I'l go with Purple Rain but I'm still not happy with Prince and his crazy copyright spree.
Do you guys want some grapes?...bitches <---I wish this was real.

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 03:03 (seventeen years ago)

it's funny how one-sided the response is here; i love both of these equally.

aaron d.g., Wednesday, 29 October 2008 03:18 (seventeen years ago)

Isn't the real battle between Prince's "Purple Rain" and Marvin Gaye's "Purple Snow"?

mottdeterre, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 03:19 (seventeen years ago)

OHMYWORD you are so right. Someone do that poll

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 03:20 (seventeen years ago)

Why do people keep making polls that put Prince against something that's not Prince? Folly.

Mozarella sticks. Think about it. (kenan), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 05:11 (seventeen years ago)

"Purple Rain" is the worst song on that album, but I'll still vote for it.

Eric H., Wednesday, 29 October 2008 05:18 (seventeen years ago)

I <3 NOVEMBER RAIN

i mean, i like purple rain, but november rain was my favourite song when i was kid (along with extreme's 'more than words').

undiscovered cuntry (Rubyredd), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 05:26 (seventeen years ago)

I had considered making this poll at one point before, but I foresaw the responce.

4 Out of 5 Dentists (The Reverend), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 08:31 (seventeen years ago)

They're kind of the same song.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 10:06 (seventeen years ago)

http://www.imeem.com/tag/?p=1&q=artist%3APrince&f=videos

There's tons of Prince videos on imeem.com, including Purple Rain. Don't know why they haven't been deleted, maybe the site pays royalties or something?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 12:31 (seventeen years ago)

november rain. it has a good solo and i do like the strings at the end (and it makes me think of the film which makes me think of appollonia) but purple rain isnt as strong melodically as november rain. verses are too short too. theyre just sort of there to bide the time til the chorus comes in.

titchyschneiderMk2, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 13:21 (seventeen years ago)

It is very unusual for me to pick GnR over Prince, but in this case I'll do. This is one of GnR's best songs V one of Prince's worst, so. "November Rain".

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 14:35 (seventeen years ago)

vs. Chocolate Rain

kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 15:04 (seventeen years ago)

TAKE ME AWAY

mookieproof, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 15:12 (seventeen years ago)

"sex shooter" video! thank you tuomas.

Jordan, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 15:17 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, I've had fun watching all those videos, I had only seen maybe half of them before.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

SHUT UP ALREADY DAMN [Mark Steyn]

Someone who utterly loathes Prince and has done since the 80s is the kind of person who would vote for November Rain out of sheer perversity.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 16:34 (seventeen years ago)

lololololol

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

(fyi Kate, I don't know if you know but that title is the first line of Prince's "Housequake")

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 16:53 (seventeen years ago)

November Rain is mostly boring but turns incredible at the end. Purple Rain is all boring.

chap, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 16:57 (seventeen years ago)

I am so glad I am not a soulless Borg.

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Wednesday, 29 October 2008 16:58 (seventeen years ago)

It's quite liberating once you get used to it.

chap, Wednesday, 29 October 2008 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 3 November 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

trick question it's eastern rain

tramp steamer, Monday, 3 November 2008 00:44 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

i don't get why having hated prince "since the 80s" makes that opinion any more legit

J.D., Tuesday, 4 November 2008 03:04 (seventeen years ago)

fourteen years pass...

falsetto at the end vs

"DEW YEW NEEED SUM TIYEM"

Fash Gordon (Neanderthal), Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:24 (three years ago)

purple rain is the shortest 9 minute song of all time
november rain is the longest 9 minute song of all time

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:27 (three years ago)

I was just listening to the 2022 remaster of NovRain and was thinking exactly that.

Being cheap is expensive (snoball), Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:27 (three years ago)

on the other hand, in the time that you listen to november rain, you can knock out all of today's to-do list and get a good head start toward a new hobby. unfortunately with purple rain, the excellence of the song demands total attention and having a great time, which makes it unproductive in terms of the to-do list

Karl Malone, Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:29 (three years ago)

ballads always come and ballads always go

calstars, Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:38 (three years ago)

Ahah listening to 11Rain22 I was thinking about the thread « Suspicious Mind Vs Hey Jude » and to my surprise I think I prefer 11Rain’s coda to Hey Jude’s !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:41 (three years ago)

And about PRain I have to admit I love Prince and this album but have never particularly liked that song. It’s good but nowhere near the other highs… on that album !

AlXTC from Paris, Saturday, 12 November 2022 18:45 (three years ago)

11Rain22

Chocolate Rain FTW.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 12 November 2022 22:06 (three years ago)

No doubt this joke was already made upthread.

Me and the Major on the Moon (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 12 November 2022 22:07 (three years ago)

Not a huge fan of either song but I’ll take the worst of Prince vs the best of GnR every day of the week.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 12 November 2022 22:21 (three years ago)

november rain pops into my head more often than purple rain. not really the song, just certain scenes from the video. i'll think it's so out of touch from any dream i've ever had, it's kinda baffling, like trying to imagine life 1000 years ago. then think, the symbolism is so over the top it's insulting. then think, the subject of the song, some kind of first love on the rocks, is kinda timeless, and the treatment of it sort of feels real, even though all the symbolism is so thick and overblown. and then i find myself back to liking it again. still pretty hard to sit through all 9 minutes though.

purple rain is a beautiful song of course but i'm reevaluating my relationship with prince atm.

ꙮ (map), Saturday, 12 November 2022 22:45 (three years ago)

Purple Rain is unimpeachable obviously but, ftr, Estranged >>> November Rain.

Shard-borne Beatles with their drowsy hums (Chinaski), Saturday, 12 November 2022 22:49 (three years ago)

Estranged >>> November Rain

well, sure, that’s a given

Reese's Pisces Iscariot (morrisp), Saturday, 12 November 2022 23:03 (three years ago)

I just listened to “11Rain22” in the car, and it sounded pretty great. (Honestly I think you could start listening to the album right there, and not miss much… but that’s a different thread)

Reese's Pisces Iscariot (morrisp), Saturday, 12 November 2022 23:04 (three years ago)

The rain song
