"Oops, Oh My" by Tweet w/ honorable mentions to Nappy Roots, Ludacris, Aaliyah, and too many bootleggers to mention.

J Blount, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Lazy" is so the only right answer for this.

Keiko, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugababes

jamesmichaelward, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

finally, the answer that all of you have been waiting for:

nobukazu takemura "mimic robot"

http://gygax.pitas.com, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oooh! I haven't heard "Mimic Robot"! "Sign", though, was further released as a single this year (third time it's been released, at least - does this count?)

Further IDM-pseudo-pop Singles To Search this Year: Capitol K's "Pillow" - Brilliant.

Keiko, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

S Club Juniors

Paul Richards, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The last few singles on Warp (Plaid, Autechre, Sote) are all ace.

dog latin, Tuesday, 21 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if Lo Fidelity Allstars put out "Feel What I Feel," then that. otherwise, the Rapture "House of Jealous Lovers" 12-inch

M Matos, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugababes so far for me too.

Tom, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Until God Save the Queen, I'll go with the Sugababes.

Dr. C, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Toss up between Fucking DeWaele Bros (Soulwax for you bastardos), Puretone and Sugababes.

cuba libre (nathalie), Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No good singles thus far this year. "Lazy" overexposed and not that great to begin with (user-friendly Byrne for folk who would run a million miles from The Overload or Drugs). Sugababes - as I've said elsewhere, an inferior xerox of the original xerox.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Kik Off" by Blak Twang, ahead of "Private Eye" by Alkaline Trio.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugababes - as I've said elsewhere, an inferior xerox of the original xerox.
In short you mean "Sugababes"?

cuba libre (nathalie), Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Shakira or Holly, I can't decide!

jeltronic isotope, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well yes that too - but what I meant was the original Girls on Top bootleg with the Adina Howard vocal; much better.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sugababes all the way. Honorable mentions to Tweet, Blak Twang and Christina Milian.

Nick, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

'intro-inspection' - osymyso 'sexual guarantee' - alcazar 'weak become heroes' - the streets

piscesboy, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

System Of a Down - "Toxicity"

sundar subramanian, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I've been working my way through the Pop Focus Group list, and so far (for 2002 releases) I have a tie between Brandy's "What About Us" and Outkast's "Whole World".

o. nate, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've never heard of the Sugababes- what song is it that everyone thinks is so great?

John Dahlem, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Overprotected by Britney is superior to all songs not featuring random guys shouting "action!".

(I'm serious)

Graham, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

1. I Against I - Massive Attack/Mos Def
2. Let's Push Things Forward - The Streets
3. Make You Feel That Way - Blackalicious
4. Deck The House - Akufen
5. Deep Space 9mm - El-P

JoB, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Freak Like Me by the Sugababes for me, too, I think.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Oooh, forgot about Brandy. Very odd record, but in a kind of compelling way.

Nick, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"First Date" Blink 182

Kris, Thursday, 23 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Still Fly," Big Tymers, with "Freak Like Me" a close second.

adam, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tweet's "Oops (Oh My)", Blue's "If You Come Back", Closer Musik's "You Don't Know Me", Missy Elliot's "4 My People (Basement Jaxx Remix)" and Sugababes. I don't know whether Latrelle's "Dirty Girl (Remix)" counts but it should.

Tim, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I agree with Marcello re Sugababes because - I'm sure you've discussed this elsewhere and I might be wrong but did they just sample an entire Gary Numan song to put underneath their cover version or something? And if so, they just ripped off Basement Jaxx's successful idea from a few months ago, which was pretty vapid itself. That seems so lazy I can hardly bear to say that the Sugababes song sounds good.

maryann, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"Make You Feel That Way" by Blackalicious, definitely.
