Oooooooooh, I've have to think long and hard about this one

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:32 (seventeen years ago)

Did I mention our alice took this (amongst other albums) to her last day at Nursery?

Mark G, Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:32 (seventeen years ago)

Beat on the Brats!!!!

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:33 (seventeen years ago)

quite.

The other two were "Rock and roll high school" and the "Band Aid 20" single.

Mark G, Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

I am often asked what my favorite band of all time is, and for me it is an incredibly difficult decision - almost impossible. However, if I had to pick a band, it would probably be The Ramones. I have been a fan since around sixth grade when I first heard the song "I Want To Be Sedated" on the radio and was immediately hooked (I even had my first kiss while "Beat on the Brat" was playing in the background). The power, impact and influence of possibly the greatest band of all time and the inventors of punk rock is absolutely endless and infinitely spanning.

It is my great honor to announce that Linda Ramone, the wife of the late legend Johnny Ramone will be joining me to campaign for my father in Nevada on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't be more excited and humbled if Elvis himself came out on the road with me. Looking forward to sharing with you what its like to campaign with a legend!

Song of the Day: "Beat on the Brat" by The Ramones

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

it all comes down to Judy is a punk vs. Chainsaw vs. Havana affair.

Zeno, Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:36 (seventeen years ago)

^^^those are my favorites too, but add Loudmouth. It's a really tough decision.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:38 (seventeen years ago)

Tempted by "Basement"

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:38 (seventeen years ago)

Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World

the next grozart, Thursday, 30 October 2008 12:39 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, you contrarians! 14 votes and no mention of Blitzkrieg Bop. Life-changing song for me.

Dan Peterson, Thursday, 30 October 2008 14:22 (seventeen years ago)

CHAINSAW

ROBIN TROUSERS (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 30 October 2008 14:41 (seventeen years ago)

Basement

Bill Magill, Thursday, 30 October 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

Blitzkreig Bop might be the best, but its kind of hard to hear after growing up with it as a beer commerical and hockey anthem.

Whiney G. Torture Garden (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 30 October 2008 15:13 (seventeen years ago)

Beat on the Brat vs. Havana Affair vs. Loudmouth

o. nate, Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:07 (seventeen years ago)

funny, I have been listening to this album a shitload in the last couple weeks

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

Blitzkreig Bop might be the best, but its kind of hard to hear after growing up with it as a beer commerical and hockey anthem.

christ I guess I should be thankful I'm older than you are lolz. I kinda wanna go with it because it is such a PERFECT encapsulation of the band's approach and a fantastic album opener/lead off single. There are a bunch of songs here that are kinda more interesting from a formalist pop POV though and I'm tempted to go with Judy is a Punk or Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World...

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you
I dont wanna walk around with you so why you wanna walk around with me?
I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you

I dont wanna go out with you I dont wanna walk around with you
I dont wanna walk around with you so why you wanna walk around with me?
I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you

I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you
I dont wanna walk around with you so why you wanna walk around with me?
I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you

I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you
I dont wanna walk around with you so why you wanna walk around with me?
I dont wanna walk around with you I dont wanna walk around with you

metametadata (n/a), Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:31 (seventeen years ago)

"Basement", just ahead of "Judy" and "Walk Around".

mike t-diva, Thursday, 30 October 2008 16:55 (seventeen years ago)

Also Dee Dee's bridge on 53rd and 3rd:

Then I took my razor blade
Then I did what God forbade
Now the cops are after me
But I proved I'm no sissy

Haunting stuff, there.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 30 October 2008 17:01 (seventeen years ago)

wtf I just noticed the downloaded copy I have of this album doesn't have Basement on it! lame

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 30 October 2008 17:18 (seventeen years ago)

They really should've included "I Don't Wanna Be Learned, I Don't Wanna Be Tamed" - it woulda helped them set the all-time record for the most "Wanna" songs on a single album. Absent that track, I'll go for "Today Your Love, Tomorrow The World" (the proggest track here.)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 30 October 2008 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

'Judy' just for 'second verse same as the first'

sonofstan, Thursday, 30 October 2008 23:32 (seventeen years ago)

Joey's enunciation on this record is so goddamn weird - clipping the final syllable of "basement" off entirely, sounding like a snotty Brit other times, occasionally indecipherable. what a lovable weirdo.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 30 October 2008 23:34 (seventeen years ago)

Today "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue," Tomorrow "Judy Is a Punk"

Hideous Lump, Friday, 31 October 2008 03:11 (seventeen years ago)

gotta be "I don't wanna walk around with you."

ian, Friday, 31 October 2008 03:38 (seventeen years ago)

Well, this sure was hard - I went with CHAINSAW too - the speed - wow - Johnny is in control here.... when wasn't he, huh?

tipsy mothra, Friday, 31 October 2008 04:22 (seventeen years ago)

This reminds me of being 15. Blitzkrieg Bop. I don't care if it's on commercials etc. it's still amazing and = The Ramones to me.

Lil Nunu (ENBB), Friday, 31 October 2008 04:28 (seventeen years ago)

Judy is a Punk!

z "R" s (Z S), Friday, 31 October 2008 04:35 (seventeen years ago)

man, the demo of "53rd and 3rd" is SO MUCH BETTER than the album version. dee dee's bit, at least.

ROBIN TROUSERS (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 31 October 2008 04:41 (seventeen years ago)

They really should've included "I Don't Wanna Be Learned, I Don't Wanna Be Tamed" - it woulda helped them set the all-time record for the most "Wanna" songs on a single album.

So who had four, then?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Friday, 31 October 2008 07:52 (seventeen years ago)

Heh, nobody I can think of! Guess I shoulda said "helped them MAINTAIN" rather than "set". (But theoretically, even if somebody comes up with FIVE, they could add "learned/tamed" and have SIX, if you count that one twice.)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 31 October 2008 08:13 (seventeen years ago)

(was just gonna ask the same q)

Mark G, Friday, 31 October 2008 08:27 (seventeen years ago)

"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" wins this, although several of the tracks are kind of similar to each other.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 31 October 2008 09:36 (seventeen years ago)

When I first fell in love with this album it was 'Chainsaw' and 'Judy is A punk'

The grower that is 'I don't wanna go down the BASe...' wins these days

Booker van Permalink (Hunt3r), Tuesday, 4 November 2008 00:10 (seventeen years ago)

I hate to be the boring old obvious dude and all, but "Blitzkrieg Bop" has been co-opted as a sports anthem for a reason: it fucking rules!

Pillbox, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 00:14 (seventeen years ago)

xpost to say nothing of a four-year-old with a Ramones fixation...

(i have 4 year old with scooby doo fixation)

I live with one of these right now. There's also an episode ("She Sees Sea Monster at the Sea Shore") that uses Rockaway Beach.

kingkongvsgodzilla, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 13:16 (seventeen years ago)

ridiculous lyrics. love it.

I suspect Mel Brooks may have had a hand in it. Still wrestling with which track to pick. "Basement" was my first choice. But all the famous ones are great. Then there's the heavy metal bit in "Glue". "Texas Chainsaw Massacreeeeeeeee". The ending of "Loudmouth". And that bit in "Havana Affair" where the power chord seems to hang in the air before crashing back into the song. I could go on all night...

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Tuesday, 4 November 2008 13:23 (seventeen years ago)

Could be any of the first 4 tracks for me. But I'm gonna go with "Boyfriend".

daavid, Tuesday, 4 November 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

xpost - Yeah, you just know that only a smartass New York Jew would come up a lyric like that

fourteen years pass...

Zero votes for "Listen To My Heart"? That song's great! And gives lie to the three chord myth - it has a minor chord for a start! And an unusual structure - which part is the verse and which is the chorus? Etc.

Maggot Bairn (Tom D.), Friday, 24 March 2023 14:29 (two years ago)

Dee dee’s vocal appearance on “53rd and 3rd” <3

brimstead, Friday, 24 March 2023 14:40 (two years ago)

Twenty seconds of my grade 3/4 class and I playing the winner at a school assembly (a few years ago--they're all in high-school now). Didn't get the whole thing, unfortunately.

Otherwise, mostly tired of "Blitzkrieg Bop." My favourite would be either "Judy Is a Punk" or "Loudmouth."
