Going to do most of their albums, but starting with this one as I believe few people are actually very familiar with their debut.

For me, this is a fight between "White Queen" and "March Of The Black Queen", which is ultimately one by the latter.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 1 November 2008 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

White side or black side?

Matt #2, Saturday, 1 November 2008 01:19 (sixteen years ago)

White queen is wondeful. So is Seven Seas but, in the end, I have to go for the former.

Ogre Battle all day

Some Day One Day. For me, so much of this album is underrated, but not exactly in the populist vein of the later and less obscure stuff...

AndyTheScot, Sunday, 9 November 2008 00:33 (sixteen years ago)

the last four tracks on this are totally amazing. i think i have to pick "seven seas of rhye" as my favourite, it's one of those "when i listen to this i am invincible!!!" songs. but "nevermore" seems to be quite underrated. i actually don't really dig the first half of this record too much, it's so restrained. "father to son" is lovely though.

great great record

Dominique, Sunday, 9 November 2008 01:12 (sixteen years ago)

The guitar riff on Ogre Battle is a freakin' epic.

earlnash, Sunday, 9 November 2008 01:49 (sixteen years ago)

I voted for Funny How Love Is

Joe, Sunday, 9 November 2008 03:02 (sixteen years ago)

Man - I hope I hope - all just give the album a good re-listen - it's so fun.
That said - 'Ogre Battle' slays ... they sound like they are having so much fun in any Queen boot I have when they play 'it ...

BlackIronPrison, Sunday, 9 November 2008 04:46 (sixteen years ago)

Love the album, but March of the Black Queen is clearly the best.

Not voting in this series, 1) dont like 'em 2) don't know the albums

Having said that, my guess is that the first album will get as many votes as this one. Maybe more...

Geir, it was some bullshit to skip past the first Queen album, if you're not gonna poll it I will.

Barack HOOSTEEN Obama (some dude), Monday, 10 November 2008 00:48 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe in the end. It is a better album than "Hot Space" at least. But not much more. :)

Geir Hongro, Monday, 10 November 2008 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

I missed this, but would have voted "Fairy Feller" without a second thought.

mike t-diva, Monday, 10 November 2008 11:39 (sixteen years ago)

(xpost) FFS "Queen" is way better than "Hot Space"!

snoball, Monday, 10 November 2008 12:20 (sixteen years ago)

I missed this poll too, but "Seven Seas of Rhye", because as aaron said upthread, it's one of those "I am invincible!" (Boris pose) songs that Queen did so well, at least in the early 70's.

FFS "Queen" is way better than "Hot Space"!

Maybe "Queen" is mainly a collection of "glam" hard rock while "Hot Space" is mainly a collection of funk songs. Neither of them representative of Queen :)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 01:40 (sixteen years ago)

I missed it, but I'd go something like this, with an album that I listened to often when I was 17...

1. Some Day One Day
2. Seven Seas Of Rhye
3. Father To Son
4. Ogre Battle
5. The Fairy Fellow's Master-Stroke

Fitzcarraldo, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 04:55 (sixteen years ago)

I hate when I miss these polls. Would've put Black Queen over the top, easy. (Though what is with the awkward racial epithet in that song?)

Nhex, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

you mean the "nigger sugar" part?

Eater of Mexicans (Bo Jackson Overdrive), Wednesday, 12 November 2008 05:11 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, is there some reason for that? An old turn of phrase or something?

Nhex, Wednesday, 12 November 2008 05:54 (sixteen years ago)

fourteen years pass...

fucking love this album so much. "Procession" into "Father to Son" into "White Queen" is a flawless 1-2-3 even as resolute and moody the pieces are as opposed to intense attacking songs to begin the album

real warm grandpa (Neanderthal), Friday, 27 October 2023 01:44 (one year ago)

My favourite stretch is the last three songs. "Some Day One Day" might be the best Brian May song/vocal, too.

Halfway there but for you, Friday, 27 October 2023 18:24 (one year ago)

"Loser in the End" is a joke I don't quite get.
