The Yeah Yeah Yeahs

OK, let's not talk about the music, as the band obviously don't care about the music. Let's talk about their, and every single article about them's, claim that they are "sexy". A sexy band, the sexiest band in New York, a band bringing sexiness to music. Bollocks are they. One of them looks like Matt Bellamy. The vocallist looks like one of those travelling hair dressers that cut old biddies hair in retirement homes, and the third one looks like a Cypriot cyber cafe owner.

Thank you for your time.

"I love a baldy sac" vs "greying chest hairs"

Andrew L, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Dom. Do you have any new bands you like that you'd care to recommend? Because I'd like to steer well clear of them.

Jerry, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Creative Controle, a hip-hop collective from Northern Ireland. Thank you for your time Jerry.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the music is sexy. I don't know what the band look like.

I suspect that a rap collective from Northern Ireland is inherently NOT sexy.

DV, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

The Yawn Yawns...

dd, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I am in a band called the loves and we supported the yeah yeah yeahs in cardiff and we will be supporting them somewhere soon also..

anyway, they were really cool, took pictures whereever they went, and were wild on stage, and if you like them you'll love us. and the lead singer wore a sticker on her green mask saying 'yeah loves'. very good photos and website - http://www.yeahyeahyeahs.com very good

misselizabethlove, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Man, that was a quick fucking google.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw them play about a month ago they weren't really sexy, they were energetic, and played with the crowd. Now, that I think about it they did look like they were trying to be sexy, but they weren't really. But they were pretty good live.

A Nairn, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

As a fuck son, you suck.

I think the singer i quite sexy. I have only seen photos though.

Marc, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they suck

how soon until they're burnt out on MTV?

Steve K, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why don't you think they care about the music, Dom? It sounds to me like they care about Siouxsie Sioux and Sonic Youth quite a lot.

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 22 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
What is wrong with Matt Bellamy ?

Maddie Carter, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

most accurate yeah yeah yeahs review i have seen, courtesy of the weekly newsletter put out by jon solomon of wprb:

"The sound of a naked emperor, it appears."

maura, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the reason that i am interested in getting their record is that i like their songs when i hear them on the radio

Ron, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

they appear to be decidedly unsexy

Ron, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

They were good when I saw them live but I never listen to their EP. Their kind of music fits better on a stage than on record.

Marc, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm always disappointed by these hyped-up bands: they're never as bad as the anti-hype predicts. I was hoping "The Yeah Yeah Yeahs" would create an utterly awful din, but instead it's just mildly pleasant.

Tim, Sunday, 14 July 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

six months pass...
it's such a bummer that Tim's not much around anymore, even to disagree with.

I am Really into this band right now. That song "Maps" that they did on Peel was pure gold.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 31 January 2003 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I too was prepared to hate them. But I don't. In fact if this is the new rock i'm bewildered.

gaz (gaz), Friday, 31 January 2003 00:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I got the 3-track EP (swallowed the hype - yipes!) It's okay I guess. It sounds like NY guitar art-rock and the Sonic Youth debt (from the design to the noise) is very very heavy. I dunno, I probably won't buy anything else from them, seemed kidna empty and predictable. Nice pink vinyl tho!

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 31 January 2003 01:17 (twenty-three years ago)

go download "Maps" on soulseek

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 31 January 2003 02:11 (twenty-three years ago)

all variations of "the emperor's not wearing any clothes" are utterly dull and useless as criticism.

I think they're pretty good live: they certainly blew the Liars off the stage when I saw them.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 31 January 2003 02:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Can't stand that girl's routine. Siouxsie Lauper, they call her. "She was a dan-juh to huhself!" But I've only heard the first EP, too. If I could get on Soulseek I'd download "Maps" and give them another chance.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 31 January 2003 02:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Siouxsie Sioux + Cyndi Lauper = unimaginable greatness. so no, she's not that good, but no one is.

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 31 January 2003 03:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Like so many other things, they have a cadre that hits all the shows and know Karen O by face enough to recognize her on the street, and...

...ultimately make them seem more popular than they really are. Even in New York.

jm (jtm), Friday, 31 January 2003 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

She's actually more of a Polly Jean Bozzio, I think. Which could be great, too, but nah, I'm not buying it.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 31 January 2003 05:53 (twenty-three years ago)

No you can't have it back, silly rabbit.

die9o (dhadis), Friday, 31 January 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I like 'em

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 31 January 2003 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

save "Our Time", that EP was really just Johanna Spencer Blues Explosion. If they're really that great, I'm sure I'll find out when MTV deems them Buzzworthy.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 31 January 2003 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

"Miles Away" is easily my favorite, a punked-up Hole.

But yeah, get ready for the YYYs onslaught. They have signed with a major (from what I hear, Seymour Stein landed them) and the deal is done. Not bad for a band that's barely two years old.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 31 January 2003 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

two weeks pass...
I just heard 'Our Time' for the first time on a free Mojo 'punk' CD and I think it's terrific. Best of its kind since the Detroit Cobras.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Saturday, 15 February 2003 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

hey i just heard them and i think they r ok. how about that. still don't check for these kinds of thngs enough, still like erase errata more

zemko (bob), Thursday, 27 February 2003 14:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw them in glasgow last week. it was okay.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 27 February 2003 15:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Creative Controle, a hip-hop collective from Northern Ireland. Thank you for your time Jerry.

I have since heard some music by this Creative Controle band of rappers. They have renamed themselves Messiah J & The Wiggers. They sound alright on record, but when I caught a few minutes of them live last year they were a bit comical.

They are less sexy than the Yeah Yeah Yeahs by a substantial margin.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 26 May 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I like everything but Karen O., so I can't really listen to the record.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 26 May 2003 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I've mentioned this before, but my response to the question:

Well I'd fuck her.

mei (mei), Monday, 26 May 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, me too, no diggity no doubt
