yeah... "Grindin'" kind of lost some of its appeal in the Great Clipse Herbery of '06

I dunno...the wack Hell Hath No Fury shit never really changed how I heard their good circa '02 shit, like "What Happened To That Boy" still sounds good..."Grindin'" just hasn't aged as well.

stay fly is way more epic - grindin is cool but stripping away all the hype that both helped (neptunes next level omg minimalism) and hurt it (lol hipsters like the clipse) its not really got the same powerful sweep - its a cool trick but not epic enough

im not saying that neptunes next level shit is correct per se - just that its a positive reinforcer for a lot of ppl evaluating it here vs. lol hipsters being one most people here dont like

I agree "What Happened to That Boy" has aged better. My initial reaction to "Grindin'" was "HOLY SHIT WTF IS THIS" and obv. that kind of thing fades, whereas "Stay Fly" didn't even really grab me until I heard it at a party, months after first hearing it.

I remember seeing the "Grindin'" video on Rap City over spring break that year and thinking "wow the Neptunes think they can get away with anything with this cheap-sounding shit" and then by the end of the summer it was on daytime radio constantly and I was like "wow they got away with it and I love this now"

but yeah "Stay Fly" really dropped like a bomb from the beginning...i think that's why i get mad when hyped up new school posse cuts like "Swagga Like Us" turn out sounding like, well, "Swagga Like Us."

my knee-jerk response is 'stay fly,' but they're both great and three 6 mafia have an oscar and don't need prestigious ilx poll awards. so i'll tilt toward 'grindin'.

I probably still listen to Stay High about once every two weeks or so.
Grindin's fine; I'd be harder pressed to pick between Stay and 'Young Boy'.

I see parallels here between the Wire vs. Sopranos poll.

"Grindin'" felt revelatory at the time but I'd be more excited to hear "When the Last Time" at a party now.
