Did the pointless sax solo ever make a comeback?

In all the hububbub of the 80s revival this decade, has anyone made use of the pointless, blaring sax solo? I want to soundtrack my cool, sexy nights with some hot saxxx, but I don't feel like digging out Hall & Oats.

Any contemporary examples of the sax solo come to mind?

i don't understand why a sax solo has to be pointless

it doesn't have to be, but in the context of popular music it often is.

I'm talking about sax solos that have no real purpose or function in the song; like, the song's doing it's own thing blah blah blah, and then out of nowhere a sax solo is copy and pasted into the mix. and it's almost always blaring.

bump for my rediscovery of Steely Dan. Some truly smooooooooooth sax solos to enjoy there.

note: I grew up with Steely Dan in the house, so I never really got into that stupid yacht rock thing that cultureless hipsters from totally boring and norm backgrounds with no real personalities of their own went nuts over. thus I'm probably a few years late here.

I don't see sax solos as pointless. For instance, the sax solo in Spandau Ballet's "True" is a wonderful moment.

never made a comeback as you can spend all £200 and get a keyboard that does all the perfect 80s sounds with very little effort but you actually need to learn how to play a sax. 20 fags a day indie pipes probably arent up to it.
