what do we all think?
it has Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess (under a different name; in fact, the company is called Cadillac Records in the film), Beyonce as Etta James (yet another stretch for her), Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Cedric the Entertainer as Wille Dixon...of course, the people you'd really like to see figure into this (the Cadet folks: Charles Stepney, Minnie Riperton, Terry Callier) will be nowhere to be seen...I dunno, this makes me think of that bomb of several years ago that had John Tuturro as "Phil Spector", I-can't-spell-her-name-but-she's-married-to-Scorsese as "Carole King", somebody else (Matt Dillon? Eric Stoltz?) as "Brian Wilson", hmmm I guess I ought to see this thing before I comment on it!
anyway, seems like a Dreamgirls cash-in, but I'll probably see it...with any luck, it'll be as good as The Idolmaker...

this movie was so much better than I expected. Recording session scenes are great -- especially the guy who plays Howlin' Wolf -- deserves his own movie. And Jeffrey Wright is really good.
Mos Def is funny in dialogue scenes but completely lost in performance scenes.
