I think it's obvious but then again I was wrong about the poll I had for 'crimson and clover' vs 'you make me feel brand new'.

is the sea & cake considered 'post-rock'?

the queer stoner dudes from my fraternity used to play the shit out of their album The Fawn. it was pretty good. i liked it.

I'd group The Sea and Cake with Belle and Sebastian in terms of 'it can still be kinda soft rock rock but cool nonetheless'. Last.fm groups them under indie, post-rock, and indie rock, but post-rock seems like a really dumb description to me.

Sea & Cake wins because of the background vocals from the Bros. Navin

Well, let me think...

no contest against the most badass drums ever recorded

winston, Friday, 7 November 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

bowie's singing is way to vaudeville and weird though

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Friday, 7 November 2008 20:40 (seventeen years ago)

that's my only complaint and also why I'm voting for The Sea and Cake

background vocals from the Bros. Navin

meh prekop's voice sounds too much like the guy on those chevron "talk of energy" commercials, though

winston, Friday, 7 November 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

xp

winston, Friday, 7 November 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

and damn, checked amg and had no idea dennis davis drummed on all these roy ayers albums!

winston, Friday, 7 November 2008 21:19 (seventeen years ago)

sea and cake get the 'postrock' tag because of thrill jockey and tortoise connections and that's it

akm, Friday, 7 November 2008 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

extended intro + dennis davis + http://static.kvraudio.com/i/b/stereoroom2016.jpg + ascending synths + "don't you wonder sometimes" = heartstopping

willem, Friday, 7 November 2008 21:27 (seventeen years ago)

prekop's voice > bowie - for this song

Bowie. Great song.

I really love The Sea and Cake, but I just can't bring myself to vote for their version over the original.

Moodles, Saturday, 8 November 2008 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

Oh, come on.

ilxor, Saturday, 8 November 2008 04:07 (seventeen years ago)

this is obviously going to be a landslide. I actually enjoyed the cover a good bit, but the orig is one of my favorites ever so...

Kevin Keller, Saturday, 8 November 2008 04:56 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 10 November 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

hey i just listened to the sea & cake version today! winston says upthread "no contest against the most badass drums ever recorded" but the sea & cake makes a pretty good case because it has some of the most badass drum machine programming ever.

aaron d.g., Monday, 10 November 2008 00:45 (seventeen years ago)

i think i am siding with the sea & cake to be honest! their version is just so irresistably breezy.
