Radio One DJs- Search and Destroy

I remember watching an episode of the awesome Pass The Buck once, with the ever entertaining Fred Dineage. Anyway, one of the topics was "Radio 1 DJs". Apparently, there's 41 of the buggers. That's too many. Considering Radio 1 is meant to represent the sound of the yoof in Britain today... who actually is any good? And who has an aura of the Emma Freuds about them?

They get much better when they go over to Five Live.

They're all here. Peel obviously rules, and Westwood for comedy value.

"This is big....Westwood has entered the building."

Please destroy Mary-Anne Hobbes on the Breeze Block who plays a really decent record then ruins it by gushing something along the lines of:

"Wasn't that just magical? That was the new single by Boards of Canada. We'll have to get them on to do a session at some point"

or

"Well it's a repetitive beat - but it's a wonderful one at that!"

Ugh! Then she starts dressing in leather and trying to pass herself off as an authority on Heavy Metal. Ridiculous. My gran could do better.

Destroy= all of them.

Peel is a fucking bore, and he doesn't play 'cutting edge' material, he plays indie bullshit.

Steve lamcq (is that how it is spelt?) sounds OK but plays shit records. Same for Mary Anne and mark and lard. The rest are rubbish on all counts.

Julio Desouza, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i see lamacq round crap pubs occasionally trying to hit on swedish indie girls. is quite amusing...

gareth, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

props go out to mark goodier here

mark s, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Gareth! Extraordinary! Last time I was out in a crappy pub in North London with a bunch of Swedish indie friends, who should show up but Steve Lamacq?! Don't remember him trying to er hit on any of them, but you can't really blame him.

harveyw, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When he's trying to pick up these Swedish girls, does ask ask them if they've got their own decks at home?

Dom Passantino, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mr Lamacq giving you a bit of competition then, Gareth?

RickyT, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I really like Jo Whiley (the playlist keeps her taste under control).

Graham, Friday, 24 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sara Cox's website annoys me beyond belief.

Andrew, Saturday, 25 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jo Whiley always comes down to my local concert venue (Northampton Roadmenders). She's very irritating, but at least she wears some bloody shoes.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 25 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I like Sara Coxs show.

Admittedly Irish radio is so dire that I may have less discriminating taste than any of you, but I listen to her show every morning and find it pleasant enough. Obviously it goes good tune bad tune but that's to be expected on radio really.

Ronan, Saturday, 25 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm astounded, not a mention of Mark & Lard! I really like them, despite the fact they're forced to stick to a rigid playlist of Westlife and Sum 41 and repeat the same jokes over and over and over and over again.

Lady Space Pilot, Saturday, 25 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

jellybean (jellybean), Thursday, 9 September 2004 11:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I should really audition to replace any of these fuckers and so should Swygart when he graduates.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Thursday, 9 September 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was younger, I never believed that the age demographic for Radio one was quite so precise. But, when I had passed the age of 24, everyone on it sounded absolutely awful, and made me avoid all but John Peel.

___ (___), Thursday, 9 September 2004 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
has Scott Mills really not better things to do?

have i not got better things to do than post this 'quirky'? (er yes i am multi-tasking, for once)

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 14 April 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)

five years pass...

Do people really enjoy listening to 5 minutes of fucking blather in between songs? Mrs V likes to have Radio 1 on sometimes but it drives me demented - it's supposed to be music radio. I don't care what C-list shite the DJ's been to see this weekend. I don't care where Dave in Droitwich is going clubbing this weekend. I just want to hear a bunch of records with the smallest possible gap in between them. What the fuck is the attraction of this fuckery?

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 3 July 2011 12:53 (fourteen years ago)

what is wes butters up to these days?

Dear Projectionist (blueski), Sunday, 3 July 2011 13:20 (fourteen years ago)

today i had to look up who Huw Stephens is. apparently he's a twat.

SB OK (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 3 July 2011 13:22 (fourteen years ago)

Gilles Peterson is still good value.

sam500, Sunday, 3 July 2011 13:31 (fourteen years ago)

If the official Radio 1 fb page is anything to go by, at least 800 000 people really like the inane banter between songs. The various DJs make like 20 updates every day that fall under the 'blather' category but they all get comments.

salsa shark, Sunday, 3 July 2011 13:45 (fourteen years ago)

that kinda sums up FB as a concept tho yeah?
