1)Since, unlike with Napster, the precedents are set regarding this type of case, how long until Audiogalaxy shuts down?

2)How long until one of these next napsters sets up off-shore, either in the Carribbean alongside so many net casinos and money laundering banks or in a country with very liberal copywright laws?

3)Is this fallout from the New York Times story on zip file sharing (which clearly scared the bejesus out of the record execs Pareles spoke to) or from the Sharpie trumps Celine Dion story which showed that whatever technological safeguard the RIAA spends millions and years developing will probably be circumvented within a month of hitting the streets?

Well, it was going to happen sooner or later, but with broadband users accelerating, and prices coming down, coupled with the refinements in true P2P software and protocols, sooner or later everyone is going to be using a system that they can't take to court, or even assimilate.

When will they learn?

I love the zipfiles. Half of them are PDF eBooks on... a) how to hack computer, b) bombs, c) the Kama Sutra. What more can you possibly ask for in life?

Well, so far they've taken out Napster, Gnutella, KaZaa and Audiogalaxy. That leaves...Gnotella, Morpheus and WinMX. Hopefully, they'll attack them in that order so I can get whatever I want from WinMX before I have to start searching for a new P2P.

on a related note, the story about independent promoters actually made it to 20/20, complete with a segment where hilary rosen complains how record companies are forced to play this little game and pay for radio station access. dare we hope that someone actually does something about it?
