Only two songs in it for me, 'XOYO', The Passage shimmering paen to lust but TRacey Thorne's 'Plain Sailing' I think has worn better over the years and is as wise now as it was then.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 18 November 2008 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

I think it's the Misunderstood. Could be that Passage track too though.

I thought there were more tracks than this! I remember liking "All About You", haven't heard it in years tho. Otherwise, it's all about XOYO and ES Grauens

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 18:49 (seventeen years ago)

As much as I idolize Thomas Leer, Five or Six, Monochrome Set and Joe Crow steal it for me.

I'll go with Joe Crow. He was a member of the Prefects and in the original line-up of the Nightingales. I played the single at the Part Time Punks festival right after the Nightingales finished.

It was also covered by Martin Gore.

ben watt track is my favourite, in fact probably my favourite thing he's been involved with outside of amplified heart

thereminimum chips (electricsound), Tuesday, 18 November 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

It seems to me very few comps (let alone label comps) really work as well as this one. I'm voting for the unforgettable Joe Crow track.

Chunk o' Funk (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

I love "Don't Blink"

I was going to vote "Stop the music for a minute" but hey, The Nightingales!"

XOYO, I heard reecently (the 3CD 1DVD box set), and was surprised at how, um, clunky it was!

Mark G, Thursday, 20 November 2008 10:20 (seventeen years ago)

It's between Five Or Six, Misunderstood, Eyeless In Gaza, Felt or Joe Crow for me.

Oh wait I like Monochrome Set & Marine Girls too but I have those tracks elsewhere so forget they're on this.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE UP TO (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 20 November 2008 10:32 (seventeen years ago)

I can't remember the Joe Crow track

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Thursday, 20 November 2008 10:34 (seventeen years ago)

oh yeah I fogot the Nightingales are on there! I get stuck on the first side.

dan selzer, Thursday, 20 November 2008 13:39 (seventeen years ago)

Plain Sailing by a whisker, with XOYO coming second (ooh-er, that seems appropriate).

Almost voted Attila, cos it used to make me smile.

Mark G, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 09:32 (seventeen years ago)

oh man, i love xoyo. the robot quoting shakespeare kills me. 80s synth fanfares. sex mosaics.
Dr C. to thread - he always waxes lyrical about The Passage

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 09:47 (seventeen years ago)

as much as I love basically everything on this comp, and esp. "eine symphonie," joe crow, xoyo, "my face is on fire," the misunderstood, and of course quentin crisp, I have to go with five or six. how come/it's amazing that they only have one song like that? (a fan of "the trial" as well as their post-pere ubu/this heat dirges though) it's like some missing postcard side...

I've always found "don't blink" annoying though, it prevented me from liking the nightingales for a few years...

"violent virgin vigilantes verging on the vindictive"

ryanch, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 09:55 (seventeen years ago)

I can't think why!

When I gave up sugar in coffee (we ran out, so I had it without, and wow! discovered Coffee/Cappuchino/Tea all over again as a new taste! great!), that "Don't blink" song came back to me, and I thought "Rob, you were wrong!"

Oh, and the box set has that 5 or 6 song that they sued Death in Vegas over: They had a point!
