T/S: Berlin Bowie vs. pop Eno

So, which is better? Poppy alien-rock from a man best known for his electronic noodlery, or electronic noodlery from a man best known for his poppy alien-rock? I love both, but if I had to choose, I'd pick Eno... his early 70s albums seem more genuinely weird and interesting to me. (Though glam-rock Bowie would beat ambient Eno... or maybe not, apples and oranges etc.)

hardest taking sides ever...

I would go with Eno because I think his rock records were more consistently enjoyable.

To me this boils down to choosing a perfect 10 (Low) and a couple 7-8's (Lodger and Heroes) or three 9's in a row and a 7.

I expect folks to disagree with me regarding Before And After Science but it is the old Eno record I have ever sold. It struck me as being overly glossy and lifeless.

that song on a freebie compilation I got when I ordered a pizza. (Display Name), Sunday, 23 November 2008 23:44 (seventeen years ago)

i'd agree with that, it sounds like he spent too much time on it. 'heroes' (the album, not the song) sounds a bit the same way for me at times.

will take pop eno but it's a close thing!

I disagree about Before and AFter Science, it has my two favorite Eno songs on it (Julie With and By This River) but I agree that Eno's rock albums beat Bowie's Berlin albums.

Eno's poppy alien-rock is sweeter, and thus wins.

Eno was Beefheart to Bowie's Zappa; or Syd Barrett to his Roger Waters, if you prefer. So Eno wins.

I'll take both of them. Again, why choose when you can have it all?

Pop Eno and Berlin Bowie are among my faves ever - and they simply belong to each other.
