i know it sounds way too much like that JT song, i know. but i'm addicted. i can't describe the feeling that comes over me when i hear this. and the video.

what do you think?

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

also i find it funny that she does not wear pants

in the whole video.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 19:57 (seventeen years ago)

really like this song

racist (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 25 November 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

the first time i heard it they played the video right before THE HILLS. it just suddenly came on. it was amazing.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 19:59 (seventeen years ago)

i dismissed it as approximately the 7th rewrite of the same song by timbaland when GGGB came out but it's definitely grown on me

lex pretend, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

whew

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 20:11 (seventeen years ago)

another song called Rehab?

akm, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:17 (seventeen years ago)

that's what i thought too. i kind of sighed. and then i listened to the song.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:20 (seventeen years ago)

...

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:20 (seventeen years ago)

lol

I know, right?, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

Surm, you really started a thread for the eighth single from this album then?

I know, right?, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

Well, it is a great song.

Trik Turner Fan Club President (Tape Store), Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:43 (seventeen years ago)

i didn't know it was off the same album as the others. i don't really know rihanna albums. just songs.

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:47 (seventeen years ago)

favourite moments - the smoky "damn!" that kicks off the second verse, the lyric "the only problem is that you was using me/in a different way that i was using you".

it's kind of crazy that there are still GGGB tracks left that would be great singles ('lemme get that' especially) (BUNS IS WHAT I GOT). and also that the only really great new song on the various reissues, 'haunted', was a japan-only bonus track.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

though the most underrated might be the title track. so much conflict and ambivalence - one of ne-yo's peaks as a songwriter.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

the very first mention of riri on ilm! http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=41&threadid=41634

lex pretend, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

favorite element: the choir during the chorus

Trik Turner Fan Club President (Tape Store), Tuesday, 25 November 2008 22:32 (seventeen years ago)

the lyric "the only problem is that you was using me/in a different way that i was using you".

yah i like

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 22:42 (seventeen years ago)

and really can someone talk about her clothes in this? o_O

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 22:44 (seventeen years ago)

(in the good way obviously)

Surmounter, Tuesday, 25 November 2008 22:45 (seventeen years ago)

i've decided my favorite line is "you're the reason why i'm thinkin

i don't wanna smoke all these cigarettes no moooore"

i mean damn

Surmounter, Monday, 1 December 2008 08:49 (seventeen years ago)

that doesn't really make any sense

The Saving Grace of Gospel House (The Reverend), Monday, 1 December 2008 08:50 (seventeen years ago)

she wants to give up smoking for him i guess

just the delivery is so GOOD

Surmounter, Monday, 1 December 2008 08:55 (seventeen years ago)

she's going to rehab for smoking?

I know, right?, Monday, 1 December 2008 09:01 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, I hadn't really thought about how dumb this song was before, because who cares about this mediocrity, but now that you spell it out, it is pretty damn dumb

The Saving Grace of Gospel House (The Reverend), Monday, 1 December 2008 09:03 (seventeen years ago)

Surprising that it's Timba, it reminds me of some British r'n'b-influenced late 90's pop single.

Tá fhios agam, nach bhfuil? (I know, right?), Monday, 1 December 2008 09:06 (seventeen years ago)

? like so many pop songs today are so much more "intelligent"

Surmounter, Monday, 1 December 2008 09:17 (seventeen years ago)

i love all the guitar, and strings. sumptuous.

Surmounter, Monday, 1 December 2008 09:18 (seventeen years ago)

it's not that weird to want to give up smoking/whatever unhealthy behavior because of an experience with someone. that happens all the time.

Surmounter, Monday, 1 December 2008 09:21 (seventeen years ago)

It's not dumb (here's Rihanna on the subject: "'Rehab' is a metaphorical song. Rehab really just means we have to get over the guy. So we talk about checking ourselves into rehab, meaning we have to get over him. And we compare the guy to a disease or an addiction. We're just saying, ''We don't wanna smoke any cigarettes no more,' meaning we don't wanna deal with this BS anymore").

This is on my top ten list. The background vocals on the chorus, Rihanna's performance, the percussion (handclaps included!), those fucking strings, the dramatic lyrics, A+++++++

Trik Turner Fan Club President (Tape Store), Monday, 1 December 2008 09:30 (seventeen years ago)

it's definitely not dumb by riri's standards. lest we forget this is the woman who sung "Y-O-U-R making this hard". and when a friend of mine interviewed her, she thought jetlag was a contagious disease. dumb-dumb-de-dumb, dumb-dumb-de-dumb-dumb.

lex pretend, Monday, 1 December 2008 09:37 (seventeen years ago)

"y-o-u are making this hard"

The Saving Grace of Gospel House (The Reverend), Monday, 1 December 2008 09:41 (seventeen years ago)

I still contend this song is kinda dumb and very mediocre

The Saving Grace of Gospel House (The Reverend), Monday, 1 December 2008 09:42 (seventeen years ago)

it's funny, i totally forgot about this song - in the context of the album, anyway, cos like Lex says there's a bunch of other things I'd want her to release and "lemme get that" is probably top of the list. But having caught the video I can barely get the song out of my head, like hearing it outside the context of the album has suddenly made me realse how good it is.

i find the 'featuring justin timberlake'-ness of the video ridiculous, though: what does he do in the song, say 'now gimme that' in a mock-timbaland way and uh that's it? That and provide eye-candy. And make you think 'gosh this is 'what goes around' part three isn't it'.

Also, yeah, the total absence of trousers and skirts in rihanna's life is starting to worry me? It's like, love, we know you have nice legs, you don't need to keep parading around in your nethers. I like the way her style is v different from everyone else's but sometimes I wish it involved leaving a little more to the imagination.

king lame (c sharp major), Monday, 1 December 2008 10:04 (seventeen years ago)

well, i mean, he wrote it?

Trik Turner Fan Club President (Tape Store), Monday, 1 December 2008 10:30 (seventeen years ago)

the man has a point

Surmounter, Monday, 1 December 2008 15:24 (seventeen years ago)

I wish this thread was about 'sell me candy'.

Christyles, Monday, 1 December 2008 19:58 (seventeen years ago)

Well, I wish it was about Breakin' Dishes. EIGHT singles, and not one is the second best song? Every time some other song is released, it's wronger and wronger.

Carmel, Monday, 1 December 2008 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

This is a pretty-sounding song that I will probably be in full-on hate mode over by the time New Year's rolls around.

Black Seinfeld (HI DERE), Monday, 1 December 2008 20:39 (seventeen years ago)

and i never gave it to another

the way i gave it to youu

Surmounter, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 04:01 (seventeen years ago)

i don't know who i am more tired of, rihanna or justin timberlake

miss precious perfect (musically), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 05:17 (seventeen years ago)

the fake pink flamingo might steal the video

Surmounter, Saturday, 6 December 2008 04:34 (seventeen years ago)

This is a pretty-sounding song that I will probably be in full-on hate mode over by the time New Year's rolls around.

Why?

ilxor, Saturday, 6 December 2008 19:16 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, why!?

i love the wind and motorcycle noises at the beginning of the video

Surmounter, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 02:00 (seventeen years ago)

vocals on "next time you wanna go on and leave

i guess i should let you go on and do it"

are wow

Surmounter, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 02:02 (seventeen years ago)

three months pass...

i gotta check into rehab
cuz baby you're my disease

Surmounter, Tuesday, 17 March 2009 01:59 (seventeen years ago)

Great song.
