This is due to a "discussion" between me and a guns n roses fan. (My money's on marr, i think it's a fairly safe bet)

Slash wins:

1. He wears a top hat.
2. He can play guitar solos anywhere...on top of a mountain, coming out of the sea...etc.
3. G'N'R = better than the Smiths.
4. I can't actually hum any Smiths songs.

I'm sure I'll get disagreed with...oh well.

5. He is from the midlands not manchester

sometimes i think it is a pity that slash was not in the smiths, and that marr was not in g'n'r

gareth, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If Slash had been in The Smiths, Morrissey would probably be a much happier man today.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

If Marr had been in G n R, he'd still be out of work right now.

can i just say that this is the best thread i've seen anywhere for a long time. congratulations.

If Slash had been in the Smiths, no hair and hat. The world could not have accepted it.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

marr neevr played guitar standing on top of a paino that had axl on one side and elton john on the other, both sitting on seats made out of half a harley.

then again, slash and marr did used to have to stand around whilst their main ass feeders danced shirtless and moaned

main ass feeders

*There's* your new band name.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Okay, so let's just assume that Marr gets drafted into the next version of GnR, and that Tommy Stinson is still somehow involved...that's two famous 80s "alternative" types. Now we just have to get a like drummer into the mix...oh, say, Stephen Morris. Then the invasion of LA's hard rawk hope by the wimpy alternative losers of the 80s will be complete! Yay!

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(one can only shudder at what "November Rain" would sound like with that lineup)

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

What if Nicky Sixx was in the Smiths??

jel --, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well i was actually thinking if they had to duel with guitars (like the duelling banjos) - which one would come out on top? (as i said, personally i think marr would win)

Myles, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I do agree with Jel. Would Morrissey even object to have a glam-rock guitarist in the band? He did work with Mick Ronson, after all. Unfortuately, no matter who you add, you still have Morrissey at the mic, so all is lost...

Sean, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course Marr would win. He could play both parts of duelling banjos at the same time. Of course, at that point Slash would hit Marr with the guitar.

Sean Carruthers, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who's the judge? Satan? Us? Because in my book, a blazing Les Paul through a Marshall fullstack would destroy a jangly Ric and Vox... unless Ralph Macchio steps up to the plate.

Andy, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
Who cares
Marr is hotter and feyer and gayer. he wins. the end.
