Fabric 41 is the best mix I've heard this year -- in fact, it might be one of the best ten or twelve I've ever heard. It's just perfectly sequenced, is livelier and more colourful than most techno mixes, and there are absolutely no dead spots.

I haven't heard all the RA podcasts either (less than half of them), but the mixes from Patrice Baumel, The Mole, and Kevin Saunderson are the first ones that come to mind.

I second Laurent Garnier's mix as the best RA Podcast this year. My highlights;

Tobias Freund's obscure, almost entirely pre 90's mix of industrial, post punk and exotic soundtracks.. made me buy Gary Numan's Dance.
Juan Maclean's podcast was the first time I heard Happy House
Pole's blend of dub styles was elegant and finally helped me appreciate dubstep and put it in a different context
Donato Dozzy's mix distilled, for me, what post 5am clubbing sounds like.
Aeroplane; because their mix of Shortwave Set's Now Till 69 had me singing long.
Steffi's podcast came at a time when I'd got sick of all this nu deep house but I couldn;t stop listening even though it pulled some predictable moves.

- Norman Nodge's mix for RU Mixmag was a right banger and finishes brilliantly with Petar Dundov's 'Oasis'.

- Oneman's dubstep / garage mix for Sub FM. Creative mixing and a great selection of 2-step to combat any dubstep malaise, thank you Oneman.

- Donato Dozzy's 4 hour set at Japan's Labyrinth party. This is what Hawtin should be aspiring to. Part 2 is very tasty.

- Appleblim's RA mix. To be honest, I wasn't convinced by the techier stuff towards the end but the first half is just how I like my dubstep.

- Baris K's Introduction to Turkish Cosmicspace

- Tobias Freund's 'Farwell Mix'. Lush.

I have to concur with the Vera + Federico Molinari. Really fun(ky). I actually like the Triple R RA podcast a lot. I don't see too many people mentioning it outside of the thread that was assigned to it on RA itself. Technically it is from last year, but I didn't get around to hearing the Chloe RA podcast until recently. Exceptional.

Im hoping theres a new Skream mix knocking about soon, saw him last week and every new tune was unbelievable, metal crap gone and replaced with ravey/jungly/vocal/funky/soca lunacy

My favourite RA podcasts of this year have been the JD Twitch, Aeroplane, Patrice Baumel and Dinky ones. Motorcitysoul has its moments as well.

Also Aeroplane's Flying mix is terrific, same sort of Fisher Price balearic feel as the podcast, but more dancefloor-orientated. I really like Wighmony Brothers' Metawuffmischfelge has well.

Twitch seconded, as well as Juan Maclean and Appleblim.

Oh yeah the Four Tet podcast is surprisingly great as well.

I'm new to all this: are these RA podcasts still available? When I look at the page for Aeroplane, it says it's archived and currently not available. Do I dig about on soulseek or something? They sound interesting. Thanks.

Yeah they're usually knocking around somewhere on the internet. If you look there's probably a website that has every single one uploaded.

metro area one is lovely and squelchy.

my favourite (most listened to) ra podcast is by sascha dive. another great mix from ronan's site is the till von sein, though i fear most will find it unfashionable now amidst the euro-deep backlash (i also rinsed the hell out of that vera & federico molinari robert johnson mix, love the opening track from vera so much).

if i'm honest i didn't pay much attention to commercially released mixes this year, there was just such a large amount of good quality free mixes on the internet

Andy Blake of Dissident Records just did a Mystery Mix that may be a late contender for me. Seriously, check it out if you haven't already- though it's on the lo-fi end if you're used to the usual Dissident sound.

I definitely second the love for JD Twitch on RA and the new RVNG thing, and as Betty Botox for Beats in Space. Ballsy stuff, well executed.

I know this has been sorta techno-centric so far, but can I throw Moonboots' name into the ring? The selections made on "Primavera" and "Claremont Originals" were inspired, and that counts for something, surely.

i don't think i could pick an RA podcast because i have trouble keeping up with all of them. the one that sticks out the most in my mind is steffi.

this was the year i was prepared to write off the commercial mix in favor of internet distributed amateur (and not) stuff, but a bunch of top-quality stuff came out commercially! the midnight mike mix on colette no 9 (have not heard the tim sweeney mix, but i bet it's good), all of the secret sundaze mixes, the rob hood and ame fabrics (have not heard metro area), jennifer cardini's mix for kompakt (criminally underrated), the wighnomy's mix (worthy of all the praise for sure), carl craig's sessions, jerome syndenham's need2soul mix, terry's cafe 11 (opposite of heavy), and a bunch of others i am sure i am forgetting or that i missed out on completely.

Yeah, I kind of wish they'd slow down on the RA Mixes. You've barely had a chance to digest the last one before they've upped a new one. So basically I just gave up this year. Surely a 2 weekly system would be a bit more conducive...?

Lee Burridge's RA mix sounded super lush whilst round a mates house the other day but I'd need to listen again. Any takers?

twitch 60 minutes of fear is great

but not really in a "best mix of 2008" kinda way ... more like stumbling on a tape of someone's awesome college radio show from 1985

i really liked the autechre webcast from february, all the oldschool electro + ebm + postpunk experimentalism went incredibly well together. 12 hours was a bit much though.

I think Aquilines's I Feel Electric mix for Thisisnotanexit-blog is my most listened to this year, awesome. Other faves are already mentioned (Wighnomy, Cardini). Have high expectations for Optimo's Sleepwalk.

Marcel Dettmann's Berghain 02, Prins Thomas's RA podcast, and Shed's mnml ssgs podcast are all fantastic.

I think the fact dettman's RA dropped over the holidays means theres not been much said about it but i can say ive not been more affected about a mix all year, properly misty eyed at how iot brings together everything i love about current techno and dubstep and so much closer to the night I spent in Berghain than the official mix. Didnt hear it until Jan 2 but it kick started another bender of a night- I actually couldnt believe the last 10 minutes from lab rat XL( how had i not played that album in years?)to EQD, bliss
