Yeah, Bookends is great. Been relistening to a lot of Simon and Garfunkel recently. How dark is that!

Suicide, loneliness, drugs, urban degeneration, suicide, suicide, more drugs, more loneliness, war, envy, meaninglessness, intimations of mortality.

Leonard Cohen! Goths! Death Metal heads! You're all wimps in comparison. Hail Paul Simon, lord of dispair.

Has anyone done a "Simon vs. Garfunkel" thread yet? Who won?

Which one has worse hair?

Artie's hair kicks ass. Grew up on lots of S&G and still hold them very close to my heart.

Can someone explain Punky's Dilemma to me? What the hell were they on when they wrote this one.

classic. even though paul simon is a bit of a thieving tinker if he sees any ideas going spare (witness martin carthy's version of "scarborough fair" utterly nicked AND COPYRIGHTED by the unscrupulous mr simon. does not come out well in colin harper's "dazzling stranger" at all...)

Punky's Dilemma = an extremely tongue-in-cheek stream-of- consciousness rumination on whether or not to dodge the (Vietnam War) draft. (or so it's rumoured.)

oh, and don't forget to take note of Roy Halee's production, especially on the latter albums (Bookends, Bridge Over Troubled Water). these records are a LOT of fun to listen to. thank goodness for the remastered versions, which really bring out just how beautifully these records were crafted.
