So there's a new Prodigy single that gives their next album it's title. It's still a free download on the bands website.
From what can be heard, will their next album be any good?
― elgolfo, Sunday, 30 November 2008 00:33 (seventeen years ago)
Backing track is good, but it's kind of hard to tell without any vocals how the album is going to sound.
― Among the Living Daylights (J3ff T.), Sunday, 30 November 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)
Okay, the full album is incredibly satisfying. It's like they decided to make a record to destroy the dance floor to.

meh...

Well reasoned, sir.
― Vulgar Display of Flowers (J3ff T.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 19:15 (seventeen years ago)
wasnt keen at all but i prefer electronic music you can dance to so ive never been a huge prodigy fan. one of the tracks samples 'one way glass' by manfred mann quite heavily but with pretty nasty 'big beat' drums
― vain_bowers, Saturday, 14 February 2009 19:18 (seventeen years ago)
lo, I see another opportunity to say that Always Outnumbered was underrated and unjustly maligned
― J0hn D., Saturday, 14 February 2009 19:32 (seventeen years ago)
Always Outnumbered had some great songs on it, but it was really uneven as an album.
― Vulgar Display of Flowers (J3ff T.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 19:44 (seventeen years ago)
We Are The Night was similarly maligned and underrated fwiw
― there's no antivote to (country matters), Saturday, 14 February 2009 19:53 (seventeen years ago)
Both were inconsistent as fuck by bands who have done so much better.
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Saturday, 14 February 2009 19:54 (seventeen years ago)
Invaders Must Die is a much more consistent record. Flows pretty much all the way through. Although I approach it more from a metal fan point of view than a dance fan point of view, so maybe that's why I like it more.
― Vulgar Display of Flowers (J3ff T.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 20:29 (seventeen years ago)
Well, metal/rock. I.e., I listen to it more to head bang to than to actually dance to. Although I could certainly see myself dancing to some of the songs.
― Vulgar Display of Flowers (J3ff T.), Saturday, 14 February 2009 20:33 (seventeen years ago)
better than the last one. I would say its dancier than the last couple. a couple of tracks even nod to old prodigy. Its no Jilted generation though.

I'm trying to figure out whether I should care about a new Prodigy album or not.

Eh? Prodigy were doing dance music at least up until 1997. I haven't heard the post-Fat of the Land stuff, but for 1991-1997 at least they were one of the biggest dance acts around.
― Tuomas, Saturday, 14 February 2009 23:41 (seventeen years ago)
It's not like that even on fat of the land or albums after they only made rock music with guitars. They have never done that.

so would it be rude of me to say that this is possibly the dumbest, most retarded thing you could say about a Prodigy album

not sure what kind of clubs you go to, but the only DJs in the UK that would play the prodigy are crappy 'indie' nights full of beered up oasis fans wearing lyle and scott jumpers
― vain_bowers, Sunday, 15 February 2009 10:38 (seventeen years ago)
That still doesn't mean Prodigy isn't "music you can dance to".
― Tuomas, Sunday, 15 February 2009 10:41 (seventeen years ago)
The "Voodoo People" or "Out Of Space" remixes were seemingly played at most student club nights I attended

you're right maybe i didnt word it very well, i suppose people can dance to anything, garth brooks, whatever. i just see the prodigy as music for people who don't like 'dance' music.
― vain_bowers, Sunday, 15 February 2009 10:53 (seventeen years ago)
dance elitism rears its head yet again
― Millsner, Sunday, 15 February 2009 10:58 (seventeen years ago)
Well yeah, but unlike Garth Brooks Prodigy have done a ton of tracks which are explicitly made for the dance floor. If these days they have a lot of fans who don't like dance music in general (and that certainly wasn't the case before Fat of the Land), that doesn't mean dance music is the genre where they fall into. I've never understood judging music based on its perceived fans.

"that doesn't mean dance music isn't the genre where they fall into"
I don't know Garth Brook's music at all, but I'd be highly surprised if he didn't have a few songs explicitly aimed at the dance floor.

Maybe, but "a few" isn't the same as "90% of their material".

The last track sounds like a Primal Scream cover done by Mark Ronson.
― Snowballing, Sunday, 15 February 2009 11:25 (seventeen years ago)
A truly nightmarish concept.

Thank god someone mentioned Mark Ronson, I was beginning to think I was trapped in 1997.

This is pretty underwhelming. Warriors Dance is the only one that really gets the blood pumping, I'm a sucker for cheesy helium vocal loops.
― chap, Sunday, 15 February 2009 16:19 (seventeen years ago)
Sits somewhere between Experience and Fat, which imo is a decent place to sit. Not exactly revolutionary (or even evolutionary) but who cares. I get my (r)evolutionary kicks from new acts, not zimmer-wielding grandpas with kerrazy haircuts.
― "chinese coke prank" (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 15 February 2009 22:27 (seventeen years ago)
It's a lot better than i expected. Which admittedly wasn't much. Bet they're still awesome live.
― The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 15 February 2009 22:38 (seventeen years ago)
Listening to this now. I was basically nodding my head and going "oh, I like this" right up to "Take Me To The Hospital" which basically ripped my head off. Now I fucking love this.

lol the "popularity" of this thread says a lot for where The Prodigy stands in 2009
I still think this album is great
― HIS VAGINA IS MAKING HIM CRAVE SALAD. (HI DERE), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:48 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah it's very enjoyable, I like how they've just settled into their role as the AC/DC of rave now - they'll probably carry on doing the same thing forever and ever now. It'll never be as good as their peak, but it'll be enjoyable enough. They feel a lot more relevant now than they did in 2004 as well, I bet they get a lot of younger people in the crowd at Glastonbury.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 19:05 (sixteen years ago)
this album is still great
the mid-thread argument about whether the wrong sort of people would dance to this is stupid
listen to this record everybody, it slams
