this label is pretty consistent, quality-wise. i wonder who does the 'unknown artist' ones?

specimen 1+2 is fantastic, especially the gino soccio track that everyone ignores. i got specimen 4-6 for a couple of bucks at a closing down sale, it's not really as good.

fela cooties (haitch), Monday, 1 December 2008 05:45 (sixteen years ago)

i hear mx 005 is carl craig.

god i wish i'd heard all of these so i could make a sound judgement here

psychgawsple, Monday, 1 December 2008 06:09 (sixteen years ago)

edits, that are clearly identifiable as edits, are no fun.0

I'd like to know who's behind the "Yes You May" one.

And is the new one, C. Denner MX017 by Pilooski?

plazzTT, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:20 (sixteen years ago)

I think you were the one who started this rumor, but it seems to be true...

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah I'm basing it from that promo bit on Rush Hour. Must be true.
Plus Pilooski's myspace says "Denner's Kebab" at the top, and there's something online about him carrying a photo of Charles Denner in his pocket.

plazzTT, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:23 (sixteen years ago)

Never Fade is a classic. I vote that.

mmmm, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

voted Specimen 4-6 for "hit and run"

awesome bathroom break live saver whether there's people on the floor or not.

i just got that special disco version one. 'feels so good' is the donald byrd track off the murphy-mahoney fabric mix; i assume they must've done the edit too.

fela cooties (haitch), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 04:27 (sixteen years ago)

oh wow i have to hear that!

i cannot vote in this poll because i have not heard enough of them. i do have copies of 3 and 4 though.

yeah 'special disco version' is what those guys are going by lately. sounds like good stuff

"i just got that special disco version one. 'feels so good' is the donald byrd track off the murphy-mahoney fabric mix; i assume they must've done the edit too.

nah, they use Theo Parrish's GQ edit on there uncredited. i mean, i guess they COULD be behind it, but that would surprise me.

i dont have a bunch of the recent ones, but Moxie tends to be good. i voted "Never Fade" but "Bloody Cheeky" is not far behind.

i need to check that Donald Byrd edit.

pipecock, Thursday, 11 December 2008 08:21 (sixteen years ago)

listened to a sound sample of the Byrd edit, sounds very similar to an edit of that track used in a Jamal Moss mix from the Mathematics site about 2 years ago.

pipecock, Thursday, 11 December 2008 08:22 (sixteen years ago)

here pilooski has admitted to doing those c. denner edits, and he has posted the tracks as well!

psychgawsple, Thursday, 11 December 2008 08:47 (sixteen years ago)

yeah pipecock i know they used the ugly edit of that GQ track, they use a few unlisted edits on that mix actually. (i think i went into that on another thread. it's funny that no-one really made anything of it at the time, not that i saw anyway.) looks like 'feels so good' is theirs though - rush hour's write-up says it's by "two special friends from brooklyn" or something like that.

'never fade' is really good. who IS chow daddy? i've also gone back to the cerrone edit on 'transfigured...', a bit heavier than some of these other ones.

fela cooties (haitch), Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:11 (sixteen years ago)

could it be other guys from brooklyn? for some reason i just dont feel like Moxie would be the label to put edits of theirs out. i think the way they licensed the original and then put the edits on was pretty clever, really.

everything ive heard about Chow Daddy says it is Recloose, which sounds about right based on the records.

pipecock, Thursday, 11 December 2008 15:23 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 12 December 2008 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

four months pass...

pipecock, the greek text on this page says that Recloose has released stuff on Moxie: http://www.thecityvibe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8580

Most (I've read all?) of the Unknown Artist edits on the Moxie label are by Paul Bennett (Moxie Paul).
