I'm not into progressive trance/house but Xpander really blows my mind. So, could you recommend me some tracks that are similar? Thanks.

How about the whole of Spooky’s ‘ Gargantuan’ LP?

http://www.discogs.com/release/142850

Which despite being an early example of prog house, I quite like. Charlie May from Spooky was the producer of Xpander, and by all accounts it was a reworked outake from the sessions for this album.

I don't tend to think you need the entire Gargantuan. "Little Bullet" will do. You're better off investing in Northern Exposure 2, which is from about two years before and is very similar to "Xpander". I would expect Expeditions to be similar but I've not heard it.

The entire Xpander EP is pretty great if you can find it.

Other stuff in a similar vein that I really like:

Orbital - Nothing Left Pts 1 and 2
Petter - All Together
Alexander Kowalski - Belo Horizonte
FortDax - Fortune Telling Fish, Curled To Suggest 'Home'
Cygnus X - Superstring (some days this is my favourite trance tune ever)

which edition of northern exposure? west or east?

that petter track is great! i discovered that last year.

I have them as a double pack. Both are good. West is harder - more like "Xpander" in that sense, although really the two discs sorta split the difference. East is fluffier and I've ended it up listening to it more.

b-but 'schmoo' is lovely and the best thing on that album.

I'm going to say Trickski's version of "At Les" here....is that completely wrong? I know not as trancey/proggy but still.

Also how about that bootleg of Xpander/Cowgirl, always thought that was a nice big sugary treat for all to enjoy.

and sasha & emerson 'scorchio'.

I think you're right on that.

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 10:22 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, "Little Bullet" and "schmoo".

Tim F, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 10:29 (sixteen years ago)

that sasha and emerson track is a crock of shit. I hate to say it but theres always been a bit of Deepchord that reminds me of xpander. And if your looking for some good old honest trancy bangbangs i used to bash humates 'love stimulation' and Age of love in my school days. A lot of stuff coming out on traum last year had that proggy trance feel, especially patrice baumels tracks

straightola, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 10:33 (sixteen years ago)

I would love to find Jaia's "Orchestra 2.0 (Minologue Remix)" again - very much along these lines and totally massive.

Tim F, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 10:51 (sixteen years ago)

- Perry O'Neal's 2004-2006 material
- Mekka - Diamondback
- Salt Tank - Eugina (Michael Woods Mix)
- Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun

Siegbran, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

i like 'scorchio', esp. the late nite dub

other older similars:
sterac - asphyx
way out west - ajare
drax - amphetamine (mike ink mix)
maybe even; armand van helden - mother earth

but none of them have that same synth sound as 'xpander' (i can't think of anything that does but surely there are some) withou veering into faster less-progressive trance

Teahouse Foxtrot (blueski), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:16 (sixteen years ago)

juan maclean's "give me every little thing" always reminded me of xpander

Local Garda, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 23:18 (sixteen years ago)

make sure you get Cowpander the Cowgirl/Xpander mashup.

also, the Underworld mixes of Schmoo eclipse the original mix.

ILM is showing its true colors on this thread.

There's nothing more boring than hating on prog and trance.

Try listening to the recommendations in the 2008 thread...

ATTENTION!

Lawrence - Along the Wire (Superpitcher Remix)

This track is amazing, one of my favourite tracks of the 00's.

Yes that's marvellous. Not much like "XPander" but marvellous nonetheless.

Local Garda, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 12:25 (sixteen years ago)

To be fair Display Name is more like the Newt Gingrich to Pipecock's Palin.

Tim F, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

Some of these suggestions are stretching the "similar to Xpander" idea really far.
Riva's productions/remixes of circa 2004 - Stringer, Inferno High Love, Rapture
Ralphie B - Massive
and even more:
Yum Yum - Heavy Fluid (Main Element Remix)
Circulation - Turquoise

Siegbran, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

Deadmau5 - Faxing Berlin
