the flipside of my microhouse obsession, i suppose. you know the shit i'm talking about: played on the "little bit of everything" pop stations, the juniors department at macys, mtv @ 3 a.m. that interminable bt morse code single, "i'm blue da da de da da dum", alice deejay. i heard something today with these awesome dubbed up snares and aqua-tint production...and i realized that this kind of stuff never really gets talked about. does it have a genre name? is there anything worth exploring?

Have you ever noticed that "bridge and tunnel" (in New York, a term referring to people who use the bridges and tunnels to come into Manhattan on the weekend) implies out-of-townness yet 99% of the time the B&Ters are actually way more local than people who use this term?

Are you referring to what Battery Park is built on?

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 28 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Jess, try Global Hits 2002, sort of a Now comp of the stuff yr talking about. contains ALL the hits. my pick: Ann Lee's "2 Times"

The genre you're looking for is "pop".

The grandmama of 'em all: Sonia's "You'll Never Stop Me From Loving You"--total by-the-numbers SAW stuff, but the B-side had the same vocals over a slight variant of the "French Kiss" groove...

Jess, I think I know what you're talking about, and... I LOVE that shit. If it's what I think you're talking about, there's this TV ad for something called "Eurodance Classics" or something, and I've seriously considered buying.

Tom -- any chance of posting up our old Handbag article -- that might answer Jess's question...

It would require a trip back to the family home and some digging around on my Dad's computer - but in the long-term I'll see what I can do. (Probably too late for this thread).
