fantasimundo, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 11:51 (sixteen years ago)

it should be made illegal to not choose sticky fingaz when available. so that.

a hoy hoy, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 12:17 (sixteen years ago)

Shoulda left out Louis, feels kind of sacrilegious to vote for anyone else.

chap, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:09 (sixteen years ago)

A "POLLelujah" poll must be in the offing

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:10 (sixteen years ago)

There were two different Armstrong recordings of the song; one in 1967 which was the hit and the other in 1968 with spoken intro as used in Twin Peaks and suchlike.

Brother Belcher (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:25 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, didn't want to split the Louis vote.

Mark G, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:26 (sixteen years ago)

Plus you missed out Roger Whittaker's 1970 version which he sung in French ("Quel Un Monde Marveilleux").

Brother Belcher (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:28 (sixteen years ago)

he was showing off...

I obviously nicked the list from Wiki, and added the BMXers and Beth Orton. (oh, and deleted some 'advert' renditions)

Mark G, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

I quite like Roger Whittaker

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

Also missing: Sydney Devine's pognant reading from his top-selling album When I Stop Dreaming.

Brother Belcher (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

That was the one with Bobby Gillespie on spoons and backing vocals?

Ich Ber ein Binliner (Tom D.), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:48 (sixteen years ago)

Can stopped him from using the spoons for copyright reasons. "'Sno fair!" quipped East Kilbride's answer to Eoghan.

Brother Belcher (Marcello Carlin), Tuesday, 2 December 2008 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

really, shoulda been "Who after Satch"

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 14:15 (sixteen years ago)

I vote for Sam Cooke ;-)

the next grozart, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 14:25 (sixteen years ago)

tipsy mothra, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

No Billy Jenkins version, no credibility :(

t**t, Tuesday, 2 December 2008 16:07 (sixteen years ago)

Good call!

Brother Belcher (Marcello Carlin), Wednesday, 3 December 2008 08:23 (sixteen years ago)

I was kicking myself for having left out Chris Lynham's version, but then decided it really should be recorded/out versions.

Did BJenkins release his? umm. Ok. (That's him off Trimmer and Jenkins/Resonance, right?)

Mark G, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 08:45 (sixteen years ago)

Armstrong, although MacGowan and Cave was an interesting pairing. :)

The Billy Jenkins version that I know & adore is on this CD: Billy Jenkins/ Fun Horns - East/ West (Babel, 1996).

Ach, you guys.

If I'd excluded him there would have beenan elephant not in the room.

Would anyone really care about who did the best 'cover'?

At least, this shows Louis dominates this song by a percentage of 63%
