Tried to drop his name on some Motown related discussions but the guy deserves his own thread. Here's the Guardian obit from yesterday: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/dec/01/mike-terry-obituary

Strangely, he was not invited to participate in the reunion of the Funk Brothers, the original Motown session band, six years ago
What's up with that? Poor guy never got his due.

He was reduced to a footnote at the end of the credits.

He doesn't show up on that until about 25 clicks in, when it says "Studio Leasing" and there is a story about the recording of "Cool Jerk." There is a picture and more about him on the next page.

Here he talks about how much he liked Benny Benjamin http://soulfuldetroit.com/archives/1/336.html?1017428098

RIP. The sax solo in "Baby Love" was him, was it?

I think so, but some people say it was "Beans" Bowles, another missing Funk Brother.

I think that and "Heatwave" and some others were Thomas "Beans" Bowles, but almost any other baritone solo on Motown (or off-Motown) was Andrew "Mike" Tery.

So what does that guy who helped put together the Funk Brothers book and movie say about leaving out these horn players?
― curmudgeon, Friday, 5 December 2008 04:59 (sixteen years ago)
Slutsky is a total amateur as a historian -- the book started as a tab book for sale in the pages of Guitar Player. Definite rock band mindset.

He says that the movie was about the rhythm section guys and that to include others would have lost focus so that is why he left them out.

That's fucked up (leaving out the horn players), especially since they used that fucking hack Tom Scott in the movie.
