PROLAPSE: Classic or Dud

Prolapse were an incredible live band and could pull a fairly big audience. But the music press never really got behind them fully. I suspect people didn't value them enough at the time either. If they'd been from the States I think it would have been a different matter.

The last album (Ghosts of Dead Aeroplanes)was excellent but probably before it's time. Perhaps people were expecting more of the same shouty pop songs and got were confused to find the band had moved on.

this is excellent news - I've got no interest in Mogwai but will likely go - Prolapse were great live (Leicester gigs for me).

I was at that Sound City gig with Dubstar, I remember John Peel hanging around at the aftershow party. Prolapse had clearly been told not to swear on air prior to the show, so naturally Scottish Mick's first words were:

"Oh shit, I said shit".

Brighton last night was fantastic. An absolute joy to put them on. Lots of Leiester in that room for a Tuesday on the south coast.

Saw them supporting Mogwai at the weekend, they sounded fantastic and went down really well... except for bloke standing next to me who turns to his mate and says "what the fuck is this? This is the worst shite I've heard in my life [glances at me] you like this shite?"

they had studio time booked but was scrapped due to lockdown, no doubt they'll get back to it at some point
saw them in Leicester the other day, as good as ever live, played all the "hits"

working a job at the moment catalouging zines, and obviously there is a lot of c86 / indie pop fanzines in there. have come across one titled: 'let the sunshine through Your anorak'and this is the only use of the phrase i can find online; was this post from the enigmatic fanzine author?

some guy who runs a metal/noise label in Glasgow posted on his Instagram stories today that the biggest disappointment of 2023 was the bloke from Prolapse being an abusive dick at Mono in Glasgow, and all the bald blokes in the audience did nothing about it.

what's all that about? as far as I can see Prolapse played at Mono in 2022, not this year. maybe it was one of them solo? or was this guy completely unfamiliar with Prolapse and took Tina This Is Matthew Stone seriously? couldn't find anything about it online

they played Mono in October last year, maybe that's what he's thinking of?
when they recorded Tina in the studio for the 1st album the producer really thought they were having a fight and hitting each other in the vocal booth
they recorded a new album in Wales this summer, should be getting released next year

I think that's probably what happened, bit embarrassing for the guy tbh, I think he's older than me, I'm sure he probably doesn't have as much hair as he used to

I saw them in London last autumn and the worst thing that happened was their t-shirts apparently stinking of fish because they'd been sat in a lock up somewhere for 25 years. I bought one and it did not smell of fish fwiw

saw them last night and… it was a lot of fun! well, esp the first half. donald skinner had a funny turn or something, and carried on playing sitting down and some of the oomph and chaotic energy went out of it. i was like… don’t you want to check he’s ok?

I was going to go last night but Melt-Banana were playing in Brighton and I opted for the gig that didn't involve hours of travelling (sounds like that was a good idea re engineering works). hoping due to the recording of new songs they'll be playing again next year

subsequently learned that the guy I posted about last year who I think grossly misinterpreted their stage performance is in Coffin Mulch who I saw a couple of months ago and are really good, and can confirm that he isn't in fact bald

I was in the support band (Kylie Monologue) for the London date. They were self adminttedly a bit rusty. New stuff sounds good; not a major departure. Guess they will be back over when the new album comes out next year.
