From today's Guardian:-

"The year's unlikeliest match was announced yesterday: Butlins, purveyors of wholesome holidays for over half a century, is to host the garage rappers So Solid Crew.

Confident of coping with the band, whose appearances have been marred by violence, the holiday firm is letting all its Skegness chalets to enthusiasts at The Big Reunion concert in November.

"Nothing can hurt Butlins," a spokeswoman said yesterday. "We are letting the whole site for the concert, but regular clients are welcome to go as per normal if they book through the Big Reunion system."

Lincolnshire police were more cautious, after bans which have left the 35 strong group with few big bookings.

Sergeant Rob Grace, whose report on So Solid is being considered by the force today, said: "We're aware that this would be their first UK gig since gun incidents in London last year." Dozens of big names are on the bill, including Boy George and the veteran DJ Tony Blackburn.

Traditional attractions such as children's and pensioners' talent contests have been suspended."

Whoops I just noticed that Brane's already reported this on NYPLM.

I saw this on the questions list and thought it was a joke!

but if Camber Sands can reinvent itself for "All Tomorrow's Parties" ... I guess holiday camps make better festival locations than castles and farms 'cos you have accomodation included.

I thought this was another of Marcello's pastiches as well!

The other fascinating thing is that until last year SIR RICHARD BODY, the lunatic anti-European and white English nationalist activist (he was the one who inspired John Major to comment that at the very mention of his name he had visions of men in white coats - he might also have been one of the Eurosceptic "bastards" who had the whip removed, effectively reducing a tiny majority to a non-existent one) was the Skegness MP, and the town is also where Norman Tebbit told Darcus Howe, during his TV series "White Tribe", that because he was black he might be British but he could *never* be English.

The British revolution continues apace.

And also Body had been an MP since 1955 (no current MP goes back that far) and the constituency now has its first football league club (Boston United).

The jubilee can never alter any of these facts. Its most fervent advocates wish it could.

no it was mpre poetic than that robin: major said when body's name was mentioned, he HEARD THE FLAPPING OF WHITE COATS!!

Ha ha yes I remember that turn of phrase now - best thing Major ever said, surely?

So Solid Crew? Butlins? Skegness?
