Today, I have been listening to the Father Ted song "My Lovely Horse" by Divine Comedy... It's as naff as heck but it's just so happy one can't help but want to skip around on listneing to it. What other songs do this for you?

Heehee... dleone if you're going for a Wild Honey tip, I'd suggest "Country Air" or "Aren't You Glad" instead of "I was made to love her" and "Darling" (though they are still good choices).

dog latin, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but I was going for the Stevie Wonder version of the "I Was Made to Love Her". I love "Country Air" more than my own mother, but it's more of a somber, peaceful thing for me, than unadulterated joy.

Magnetic Fields - Desert Island
Rheostatics - Ballad of Wendel Clark (You might have to be a Leaf fan for this one)
Piggy - Shes Stepping Out
Have all made me bounce around the room, ohh and The Vaselines - Think Your A Man

Mr Noodles, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

sombre? I dunno, I must hear it differently. I kinda see what you're getting at. Oh yeah, what about - actually the majority of "friends" would be good in this list. Lovely, pastoral, at peace with one's mind and celebratory.

"god only knows" by the beach boys..that incredibly perfect coda...

Saint Etienne: "He's on the Phone"
Perrey and Kingsley: "The Savers"
The Ronettes: "Be My Baby"
Unrest: "Make Out Club"
Club 8: "Missing You" - this song should've been an international #1 hit, but alas.
and, of course, "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies.

Ernest, Wednesday, 29 May 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a few more...
The Wedding Present: "Dan Dare"
Talulah Gosh: "In Love for the Very First Time" - ba da da da duh daaaah, whoaaaaaaa!
Black Tambourine: "Throw Aggi off the Bridge" - has there been a happier song about a murder request?
"Dr. Goldfoot and His Bikini Machine" as covered by the Delmonas
Belle and Sebastian: "Legal Man" and "Judy Is a Dick Slap" (their two happiest songs, back-to-back = unbeatable combo).

I think one of the most joyous songs to be released in the past year or two is "Fathom The Nine Fruits Pie" by the Danielson Famile. It's very strange, but pure and beautiful, celebrating life, kindness, and peace. It's wonderful.

My cheeky answer is Sing by Travis, which is excellent 8 AM driving music. And not really music (well, maybe), the little growly noises that my dog makes when he rolls around on the floor scratching his back each evening. That's the sound of pure unadulterated joy.

Jackson 5 own this category.

two years pass...
Stevie Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely'. It hasn't made me cry with joy, but it made me for the first time understand what it's like to cry with joy, if that makes any sense.
