Teutonic Efficiency 4, Latin Fannydangle - 2

Matt DC, Monday, 8 December 2008 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

It's hard to vote against Germany in these polls (unless they are facing off against the US, UK, Jamaica or Japan obv) and while Brazil is one of those countries that's outputs is literally an embarrassment of riches none of it quite reaches the heights of Krautrock.

Alex in SF, Monday, 8 December 2008 17:01 (sixteen years ago)

I find this choice very difficult to make, since these are (alongside the US) my two favourite music-producing countries.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 December 2008 20:37 (sixteen years ago)

this shows how different ilm and i truly are

FUCKING BRAZIL YOU IDJUTS

me @ shitin2ya dot gettin it own (PappaWheelie V), Monday, 8 December 2008 20:39 (sixteen years ago)

I feel like Tuomas, most of the favorite records and artists in my collection come from these two countries. Though most of the modern Brazilian music isn't half as interesting or engaging as the one being produced in Germany at the moment.

I'll vote Brazil though, since I want to dignify brazilian music a bit at the inevitable poll results.

Krautrock vs Tropicalia would have been a better poll.

Moka, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:02 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, if this was just about current music, Germany would win it, and if it was just about pre-80s music, Brazil would be an easy choice (never cared for Krautrock).

Tuomas, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:04 (sixteen years ago)

I guess the classical composers might give some extra weight for Germany though, but few of my favourite classical composers are actually German.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:07 (sixteen years ago)

who are your faves?

get that pion down you son (Frogman Henry), Monday, 8 December 2008 21:09 (sixteen years ago)

i can't be the only one on ilm who loves that schmaltzy Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti arranged brazilian 80s pop

STILL GEETIKA IN 2009 (PappaWheelie V), Monday, 8 December 2008 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

if this was purely nonclassical, i'd vote brazil easily.

get that pion down you son (Frogman Henry), Monday, 8 December 2008 21:11 (sixteen years ago)

I'm not a very active listener of classical music, but I would have to say Mozart, Debussy, and Arvo Pärt.

(xx-post)

Tuomas, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

If I'd listen to more classical I guess I'd have to choose Germany, but now it's very hard.

Tuomas, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:12 (sixteen years ago)

what else could i vote for, really.

ǝɟɟɐzǝɟ (☪), Monday, 8 December 2008 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

s1ocki, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:32 (sixteen years ago)

No way.

Alex in SF, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:42 (sixteen years ago)

I can understand voting Brazil, but pretending that the last 40 years of German music can't hold even it's own?

Alex in SF, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:43 (sixteen years ago)

I voted Germany because it's in my blood.

Side note: Opeth was the Swedish death metal band with the Brazilian rhythm section. How cool is that?

Nate Carson, Monday, 8 December 2008 21:51 (sixteen years ago)

Germany, but would like this decision to be more difficult (ie would like to hear more Brazilian stuff)

Yentl vs Predator (blueski), Monday, 8 December 2008 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

for me this poll represents the two polarities of what i love in music. cerebral vs the sensual. damn, this one is tough. obvs brazilian music can be cerebral and vice versa, but you get what i mean. if it's a desert island type of scenario brazil wins, if i still have to live in the "modern world' germany wins.

oscar, Monday, 8 December 2008 23:25 (sixteen years ago)

Well, the thread was clearly biased since the very beginning.

Samba, Bossa Nova, Tropicalia/MPB, Sepultura, Axé and a whole raft of other osbcure genres I know nothing about

Moka, Thursday, 18 December 2008 09:20 (sixteen years ago)

Bach alone gives Germany a major push. (I'm not saying he settles the question, but for a single artist he carries an incredible amount of weight.)

_Rockist__Scientist_, Friday, 19 December 2008 20:03 (sixteen years ago)

Rammstein. Bach is pretty much a thread locker, but nobody pushes harder than Rammstein.
