I had never heard of Bon Ivor until Thanksgiving when my 14 year old cousin was all "oh, surely you know this guy!" and played me some of his stuff and it sounded tepid and artificial.

Definitely Bon Iver - I saw him do an instore at Rough Trade and it's in my top 3 or 4 favorite shows of the year. Just really, really pretty. Beautiful weird lyrics, too. "I wear my garment so it shows... gluey feathers on the flume..."

i liked the bon iver album when i got it. i must listen to it again. i cant even get halfway with the fleet foxes album though. zzzzzzzzz.

heard that bon iver album last week when someone made me listen to it in their car. 'nice' i suppose, but seemed a bit fake with the niceness. the backstory behind how the the album got made seemed to be what won my friend over but even that seemed like a load of shit.

i think british people are overstating the importance of self-recording in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in the winter. it's not like this mythic thing, it's really no big deal at all.

it's better than going crazy and turning a bunch of local girls into furniture, you know

it didnt really sound like it was recorded in a little cabin either. i know these days you can do a pretty good recording wherever you are but if theyre making such a big deal out of the cabin thing, they could at least make it sound less 'professional'.

maybe the people making a big deal about the cabin thing are not the ones responsible for the recording.

one of my friends recorded a great album in a northern wisconsin cabin last year (seriously), i bet he's pissed.

These two bands (and throw Band of Horses in there too) and subsequent inexplicable hype are what made 2008 such a lousy year for music. Indie kids get stupider every year.
