So many classics in 91. I chose Achtung Baby but it could have easily gone to Metallica/NWA/GnR depending on my mood.

redmond, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:18 (sixteen years ago)

91 = like water for chocolate

i ask you today what makes this average? (PappaWheelie V), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:19 (sixteen years ago)

An embarrasssment of riches! Skid Row! Michael Bolton! Spellbound!

Seriously:

Two classics: Achtung Baby, Out of Time

Two excellent albums: Ropin' The Wind, Dangerous (we know who was waiting to dethrone MJ on the other side).

One flawed good album: Use Your Illusion II.

I voted for Achtung Baby since I heard it most recently, and was still moved by the slower stuff ("So Cruel," "Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World," "Love is Blindness").

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:31 (sixteen years ago)

Out Of Time is way closer to flawed good album than classic, IMO.

F.U.C.K. was the best it ever got with Van Hagar, which ain't sayin' much, but hey.

the ref (denis leary ha ha) (some dude), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:45 (sixteen years ago)

"Achtung Baby". Their best album until "All That You Can't Leave Behind" (and, sure, if being groundbreaking is important, then "Achtung Baby" wins)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:46 (sixteen years ago)

daaaamn this a shitty ass list - voted gnfr obv

Lafayette Lever hi wtf (ice cr?m), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:50 (sixteen years ago)

strange that more people bought use your illusion 2 than uyi 1

omar little, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:56 (sixteen years ago)

2 was generally, among the fans, thought of to be better, as it had more "rock" songs. The big ballads would subsequently become hits, but among other people than the typical GnR fans.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

But UYI-II had the most hits, no? ("November Rain" was the biggest chart hit, but whatever)

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

OK, Spellbound is my guiltiest, pleasuriest guilty pleasure of all time. Gets my vote easy.

Eric H., Wednesday, 10 December 2008 00:58 (sixteen years ago)

But UYI-II had the most hits, no? ("November Rain" was the biggest chart hit, but whatever)

"You Could Be Mine", which was the initial hit, was on number 2 though.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

That's what I said.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 01:01 (sixteen years ago)

"Civil War" was also an advance single and that was on II too. hell, even the next single "Don't Cry" had the alternate lyrics version on II. maybe they were afraid people would just put the first one and not worry about the second one unless they made sure to draw more attention to it.

the ref (denis leary ha ha) (some dude), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 01:04 (sixteen years ago)

honestly i listened to the metallica album so many times more than anything else here.

some know what you dude last summer (Jordan), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 01:05 (sixteen years ago)

I love me some MJ, GnR, NWA & REM, but none of those albums were really that great. STTG had its moments. I know that, to many, the black album is seen as the beginning of the end, but Christ what riffs! Sure they slowed it some and hired that jackass to produce it & make the inevitable bid for global superstardom, but it is superior to AJFA IMO &, really, the last great Metallica record. I think I'm going with Boner & Edgy on this one, tho.

D'Andrelo, the gay white ex-con (Pillbox), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

rem's probably the better album but I'm voting garth

gabbneb, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 02:55 (sixteen years ago)

I listened to ab obsessively 8-9 yew ago then one day put it away and have had zero desire to hear it ever since

LOL xgau

gabbneb, Wednesday, 10 December 2008 02:58 (sixteen years ago)

Ropin' the Wind was such a let-down though, after the debut and No Fences. It was the album that really brought on the striped shirts, head mics, and Billy Joel covers.

өөө (Pleasant Plains), Wednesday, 10 December 2008 03:19 (sixteen years ago)

I voted for Achtung Baby. Not only did they do a 180 on that desert sky stuff, but they pulled it off. Plus, prank calls to George HW Bush.

I sometimes still have trouble with the concept that there was a band called Color Mr Badd with two D's and they had an enormous hit called I Wanna Sex You Up" and they were an R&B group from Oklahoma.

☮ (peace, man), Thursday, 14 March 2019 10:03 (six years ago)

and they all looked like clones of other pop stars (George Michael, Kenny G, Milli Vanilli).
