Actually 'The Band' is game over...

sonofstan, Thursday, 11 December 2008 10:09 (sixteen years ago)

There's only one Dave Clark in Dave Clark Five. See also James Taylor Quartet. The Jackson 5 is alright though.

The Godfathers.

Although, I'm not sure about that.

Mark G, Thursday, 11 December 2008 11:27 (sixteen years ago)

I am unsure whether they were actual godfathers at the time of their 1987-ish heyday.

Wasn't it Two Men, A Drum Machine and a Trumpet? If so: PERHAPS THEY LIED ABOUT THE TRUMPET.

grimly fiendish, Thursday, 11 December 2008 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i don't recall a trumpet in 'I'm Tired Of Getting Pushed Around'. should've been Two Men, A Drum Machine And Da Pizzicato.

Oh yes you're right! I think they did use the Two Men and A Drum Machine moniker on 'Heat It Up' w/the WPGRs though.

fantasimundo, Thursday, 11 December 2008 13:12 (sixteen years ago)

You'd have to first define "digitalism" before you can say that's what they are. Without the -ism it might work, but not with it.

They Might Be Giants - The equivocation gets them in on a technicality

Most of these either describe the band members or the instrumentation. I think Low is the only one that actually describes the music. Is there an equivalent band called Loud or Bzzzzzzz or Grrrrrrr or something?

When Neil Young & Niko Bolas produce a record together, they're listed as "The Volume Dealers."

The Other Two

Them

Of course, these only work if you're looking at the indexical from the right position, but certainly in the case of the latter almost everyone is in the right position.

emil.y, Sunday, 14 December 2008 13:11 (sixteen years ago)

This thread is funny - the line about the woman having a hat made me laugh!

No-one mentioned Garbage yet?

the pinefox, Sunday, 14 December 2008 13:12 (sixteen years ago)

The Other Two

... and, er, Electronic!

And also, arguably, Revenge (ie "I wanted to play live, you cunts; right, I'm forming a new band." Although that's stretching it. A lot).

ailsa, Sunday, 14 December 2008 13:59 (sixteen years ago)

Isn't only one of Black Kids black? And they're not exactly kids, except in the colloquial sense of the word.

Was gonna say the Pop Group, but I guess that's ambiguous as well.

emil.y, Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

I think there's two black kids in Black Kids. And they're kids to me.

redmond, Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:11 (sixteen years ago)

Okay, but even if half of them were black, wouldn't it still be misleading to call the entire group Black Kids? If it were truly 'what they say they are', then they'd be Black & White Kids, right?

emil.y, Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:14 (sixteen years ago)

Nah, I believe the name promises 'Black Kids', which they deliver - along with some white kids.

redmond, Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:14 (sixteen years ago)

Ooh, just had a suggestion from across the room: West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band.

emil.y, Sunday, 14 December 2008 14:19 (sixteen years ago)

girl band, probably

the pinefox, Sunday, 14 December 2008 15:08 (sixteen years ago)
